Have any of you guys played these before? How do they compare to the Orange amps, especially the OR series?

I haven't played one, but man do they look interesting!

I know a member here xpoopx had a SkyHammer. Give him a PM if you're interested in that one.

Check out The Sword.

Kyle got a Skyhammer. Brian has a Verellen Bass head. J.D. still uses Orange...

I have a Skyhammer it's a total groove machine. Build quality is top notch. I did a "demo" of the amp though you can't really hear me talk because I'm a noob and didn't talk into the recorder. Check it out if you want. By the way, I have an OR100 and the DD100 - fantastic amps as well.

The bass player in my old band played through a Meatsmoke. It was a great amp (really heavy though).

I briefly played a Skyhammer(although not at loud volume) and I thought is was pretty damn cool. Like mentioned before, A real groove machine. Gets really heavy but not in the tight sort of way. The thing with Verellen amps I think is that they sound bad fucking ass in a live mix. Bands that I have seen live playing them sounded killer. There aren't very many clips of them because I think the people that buy them rock them in a band and not necessarily rockin some Dokken in their room and recording clips.

I was really impressed by his takes on Fender and Vox. I've never had a chance to demo his higher power heads.

^ This. When I saw Russian Circles they as well as the band on the bill with them, Young Widows, were using Verellen amps. It was one heavy, loud and all together kickass night of music. There is no shortage of "heaviness"... one big slab of gnarly where Verellen amps are concerned. Definitely not thrash / death metal amps, but you can get some nice attack using a Maxon OD808.
