So yesterday thought I scored a VFE Dragon and a Standout from a guy on Reverb. I shot him an offer, he countered, and I accepted his offer. I proceed to checkout and after going through PP and being directed back to Reverb's site to complete the transaction I got a message: "this item is no longer available for purchase".

I message the seller and he replies: oh...I'll cancel the order and re-post and maybe it'll work then. So he does that, I retry, and same error message so I message him again.

He replies saying "No worries. I have a buddy imploring me to hang onto them for a few and give them another shot, so I think I'll go ahead and do that for now on his urging, haha. If I decide to sell again, I'll circle back with you. Thanks man!"

So coming off a two day migraine I was not putting two and two together and thought it was just a legitimate glitch with the Reverb/PP checkout system, but it dawned on me shortly after his last reply that he clearly weaseled his way out of the sale rather dishonestly IMHO. I have no problem with someone backing out of a deal because they change their mind, had he have just come out and said that, but what does piss me off is the fact that he pulled some shady spineless shit to get out of the sale after I already accepted and was in the process of paying.

Yup that's garbage. Hate to say it but Reverb is now worse than ebay. Never thought I'd say that.

I've landed a deal on a Boss pedalboard, a few months ago, on Reverb.

A few days after, I get a refund from the seller. No message, nothing.

My bet is that he got someone else to buy it locally for a better price, after accepting my offer. Messaged him, no answer. Cheap move, but like in your case, not much can be done.

Ya know what, sadly its not just in the gear realm.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here as well. Yeah...all I got was crickets when I messaged him saying it was kind of a messed up thing to do on his part.

So is the VFE Standout really all that? Def a lot of buzz lately.

It’s so good man, works with any amp really. I’ve been using it more like a tubescreamer lately but it can be way more aggressive. Great for either pushing a crunch into harder territory or even shaping an already high gain channel

Shit... now I want one.... not exactly easy to find after a bit of googling. The search is on!

Kind of funny that these pedals were available on reverb pretty cheap for a while, and not until they sell out, does the hype get going.

I picked up a Standout from vfe’s reverb page a while back, pretty cool pedal. I tend to set it to sound kind of between a tubescreamer and an unboosted amp. Though it is very flexible. I still prefer my tc electronic integrated preamp clone for the ultra tight stuff.

The Standout is also a pretty good utility pedal, I have it last in line on my pedalboard so I can also use it to boost up the volume of a pedal that isn’t very loud (like an SD1), and use the hpf/lpf to fine tune.

I have a Focus, which essentially is an early Standout. It is a cool pedal. I slightly prefer the Fortin 33, but the Focus can very very nearly sound identical, plus if wanted the Focus can let in a lot more bass, more or less treble, and has a lot more output available and can mix in the dry signal.

It really is a nice pedal and works well. Very surprised that clones haven't become available yet, but I assume it's just a matter of time. The design works too well to just leave out of production. Too many people leaving too much money on the table for that to happen.

The Standout uses some weird value dual gang pots for the high and low pass filters in the 12db slope setting, which may be difficult or impossible to find stocked anywhere. I believe Peter custom ordered a ton for all of his last batch of pedals that have the hpf/lpf.

That may be putting off some of the cloners. The schematic and pcb layout is freely available so it’s not that.

Hopefully by next Friday I will have received mine and I will be posting some clips using my mesa boogie mark III

Do people use the 12 db setting? That's some pretty dramatic stuff when I've tinkered with it. I immediately went back to just the 6 db cut, though I guess I should play with it a bit more.

I do sometimes, you can get a pretty drastic mid or upper mid boost by setting it with an aggressive low cut, moderate high cut, then tweaking the blend to taste.

Though I normally stay on the 6db slope.
