Glad to find a great forum were the mods allow their forumites to have friendly discussions without the need to censor anything they dislike... anyhow.

My two main go to high gain amp sims in the Axe-fx are the FAS Modern and the Das Metall which is supposed to be based on the VH4... has anyone compared the Das Metall (to the VH4) to see how accurate it really is? I would love to hear your opinions on this... Thanks!!! :)

Welcome aboard.

I don't think Das Metal sounds anything like a real VH4. I thought it was an Engl patch. I wouldn't hold my breath that you will ever get a digital toybox to sound like a VH4. I got both and its no contest.

IMO you are better off not looking to replace like for like and instead use the sims as the starting point for YOUR tone.

One thing the axefx has the VH4 does not................world class fx pallet.

I can get pretty damn close to the my Herbert with my Axe/Fryette 2/50/2. Even closer when I go through the loop return of the Herbert.

In the end, for me, it doesn't have to sound exactly the same. Just has to sound good. and the Axe sounds good to me.

Damn!!!! less than an hour and already four responses... I'm digging this forum much more that the Fractal Forum... Just posted on a thread about politics and someone wanting to "kill immigrants"... and not one post has been deleted yet. Very nice... most of the post are very respectful... just good folks having good conversation.

I currently have a QSC GX5 and that sucker is loud as fuck... I've been thinking about maybe getting a tube power amp but they are soooooooo expensive.

Thanks for chiming in fellas!

On the button.

When I think VH4 I think channel 3 and it doesn't sound anything like channel 3 IMO. Now that I think about it, it might actually be modeled after channel 4. Still different, but share a little more ground with it than channel 3. That said I think the "Das Metal" model is killer sounding. One of my favorites in the box for sure

I believe the Diezel model in the axefx has never been confirmed to be modeled after a VH4. In fact I don't know if it's even a Diezel, as all we know is it's named "Das Metal".

Cool thing about the AXE FX is I can sit down and A/B all my amps listed below and get the Axe FX to sound as good or better.

I'm having to set my own setting/presets as the stock presets aren't that great as far as the Diezel and high gainers go.

Once you dial them in though I can't tell which is the Herbert and the Axe Fx. Really an amazing Unit for those who can understand how to use it.

I agree with the starting point thing.

I've had most of the high gainers modeled in the Axe, and I don't think they sound all that similar in the "all knobs at noon" default settings.

What I like about the Axe is that it lets me dial what I like from there.

I've been through a ton of amps because something always ends up grating on me....you know...the whole "it would be perfect if it just didn't have..." There's always something. That's why you see all the tube swapping, speaker swapping and modding. Nothing wrong with any of that, but I can do it in the Axe. I guess that's why the Axe works for me. Sounds great, and lets me dial out what I don't like.

To answer your question, if you love the VH4, get the VH4. Really.

If you can relate to any of my reasons for digging the Axe, it's possible you'd really dig it, too.

Yes.

Neither! :codeak:

Haha, jk, I am a bit of a hater of the VH4, so I would go for the Axe FX over that any day  I am sure you could dial in VH4ish tones on there, plus a whole tone of other better ones ;)
