Recently my 2502 poweramp channel A decided not to work when turning from stand by to 'on' and simply blows 1/2 amp fuses just like "that". I thought initially it must have been the powertubes, since i only actually use channel A and never turn channel B on from stand by, naturally i purchased some matched sed el34s with same rating and plugged them in today... well it did the exact same thing, just no noise and i find another fuse blown.

It seems to me that the tubes are not the culprit and it is something else but i have no idea and thus wanted to know if anyone here can share their experiences/tech help? I am currently playing through channel B with no issues and the same tube grade matching etc. I figured worse case scenario i have a brand new pair of spare el34s incase channel B blows power tubes in the future... but it would be nice to see if anyone can offer suggestions? I have opened it up to look but i don't see anything that stands out.

Please there must be someone that is able to give some kind of help or advice? I'm getting no where... channel B is fine and i suppose i'm going to just use this side and cross my fingers it doesn't suffer the same fate down the road.. on the plus side i got a new set of winged C's on deck ready to go when the older (1yr old el34 SED's) go.

My Marshall EL34 100/100 had a problem with the B+ fuse blowing. I took it to Marshall in the end after trying (and killing) a new set of Sovteks. The diagnosis was a faulty power supply cap.

I don't know how much you know about amps. If you know your way around, try there. If you don't, use a decent technician.

Try using 1/2A slo-blo instead of the original 1/2A fast acting type, but a 3/4A fast acting type is OK too. The main benefit is that they don't trip so easily under low line conditions.

thanks for the replies guys, lester i went to the typical 'radio shack' style shop and bought some 1/2 amp fast acting fuses (same ones exact) and DID notice there are 1/2 amp slow blo fuses BUT they were smaller than the fast acting sized fuses... are these still ok to use?? Is it really possible that channel A all of a sudden felt like blowing 3 fuses??

I noticed the only 3/4 amp fuse was a tiny one like the 1/2 amp sloblo's. I have to restate my initial question, is it ok to use the tiny fuse in place?

I don't know any tech's in the area that can help, and i hate the idea of shipping this away to be fixed as i am more of a "please can you fix this on the bench and let me know when it is good to go" type of gear slut.

Sound like it couldn't hurt to email them or give them a call. I have never had to deal with them but from what I hear, they are top notch when it comes to supporting their products.

Happened to me more than once. Has always been the tubes.

Get all your channel B tubes into channel A and see. Definitely use the slo blo fuse too.

KentC, definitely will be emailing them.

mrt01, i already have tried brand new matched perfect pair winged c's from the tube store and it still did the same thing. I am contemplating going and getting a higher powered fuse but am still un clear as to why the miniature fuses are the .750 and the 1/2 amp fuses this power amp takes are the bigger sized ones.. not sure if this is safe to still use the smaller ones? ?

Anyways i'll email them..
