Hey guys, let me know your opinion about VHT 50/ST (EL-34 version) comparing to Diezel Einstein, Bogner Shiva, CAA OD-100 etc. I'd like to buy amp with very good clean and the same quality gain channel in vein of hot rodded Marshall. Any opinions will be appreciated! Thanks.

Hey man,

I've got the Einstein and I've played the OD100, well a variation of it - seems like there's so many options on those with the transformers etc.

Anyway, the Einstein has a great clean channel, the entire amp is kick ass, however; I don't know that I would really call it like a hot rodded marshall tone it's totally it's own thing in my opinion. The best way I can explain it is kind of like a super harmonically rich distortion of a Soldano crossed with a Mark IV, some people will probably argue with me... but that's what my ears take from it.

I love it and would recommend it if your looking for something different.

The OD100 - I was not a big fan of it, but I only demoed it, it wasn't a bad amp, it just sounded... I don't know it kind of had this deep resonance and felt kind of empty and void of magic. It was very tight and articulate, I don't know I just wasn't feeling the soul in it.

I have heard the Bogner Shiva is a fantastic amp and is more the flavor you might be looking for, but I would recommend playing it, bogners again have a flavor all their own!

I REALLY liked the XTC, but was a bit underwhelmed by the Shiva, and have been underwhelmed by every VHT that I've tried. The Einstein just KILLS both imho.

Another vote for the Einstein. It's definitely different sounding, like a modded Marshall that was tweaked to be a little clearer, slightly more bassy, and overall more defined and modern sounding while still maintaining that grind in the mids.

Great amp.

Now I also own an Einstein and love it to death! Smoking amp. It knocks the crap out of the Shiva if you ask me. I've also owned several VHT amps (not the 50ST, though) and it definitely holds it's own with those too. But I agree with "Dallas Marlow" in that the Einstein is it's own thing. Sure, it can be Marshally or whatever, but it has it's own vibe. Very "perfect" sounding. I want to say processed, but that's usually a negative term. The Einstein basically sounds very polished like you're listening back to a CD or something. Just kinda "perfect" tone, I think.

I think this is an excellent description of the Einstein. Someone else on the forum described it as sounding "high-definition" and that was the first thing I thought of when I played one for the first time. Two days later I bought one. I had a similar experience with the OD-100 SE+ I had for about a week. It's a great amp and it was way more polished than some others I had played but we didn't hit it off. For what it's worth If you can try to test drive the amps if you have access to them. I'm done buying without trying

Thank you for such informative answers!!! I think Einstein is great amp and I would like to get one but it's most expensive of all 3...Landy is even more. Now I see that prices for VHT are low and feature-wise 50ST is one of most packed amp. Boosters, Class A/Class A/B features, EQ!, Loop etc. So, what do you think about comparison VHT 50ST for $1000 with TC Booster/Line Driver/Distortion and all metioned amps. I know that tones are different but I think with VHT's EQ and some decent booster it will be hard to beat combination. What do you think?
