there are very subtle diff between the 50cl and the 100cl version.clx I dont know but generally is a masterbuilt and is a dream for me to have it. my 50cl sounds tight very middy based amp gain from open to slight compressed from either channel. there is a rect tube in the 50cl for u to get more thick warm compress if you want it. basically its a high gain metal amp :)

lots of talk about on the fryette forum. people may wanna get huge compression like engl or bogner is not a taker on this..but ill like to own one amp which is different from fryette ..

I really liked the 50CL I played. Very gnarly hard rock amp, I thought. I like the green channel the most. Killer string-to-string definition. Red channel was too metal for me, but maybe not for you. My only complant was that is sounded a bit thin; it didn't take up a large sonic footprint at all. That could be a good thing, as I'm sure it cuts like a knife. But compared to the VH4 that was sitting next to it, it sounded a bit small. I was told that the Deliverance would be more my thing, but I've never played one.

The offer was for a hundred watt Pitbull CL....

never played a 100cl but from what I heard its like the d60 or d120 and you get more aggression from 100 watts.. maybe you may think the cl is too snarly maybe you can do a preamp to tungsol for more depth and warm.

I played a 100CL and felt at home with it right away. Great EL34 type amp. It's a fantastic rock amp that does metal very well. The amp is warm with good string separation but the secret is how well it sustains at lower volumes. I could easily replace my XTC with a 100CL.

The D60 I played had a completely different feel. I thought it was stiff, no give at all and difficult to play. Just wasnt my thing.

I have a early nineties 50cl I picked up here.
Great amp and easy to dial in.
Sounds great mixed with the Diezel

I had a VHT 50CL back in in 1998 or so. It is a great rock amp and does do metal well as others have noted. It definitely cuts real well live IMO.

Love mine!
Hyper versatile, 40watts with rectifier and great master and low gain voicings equals great blues amp too!

If you get it make sure you run the master at no less than 2 o'clock to really hear the amp... And get a VHT cab... Don't judge the amp unless you have a VHT cab to play through, it really is that important

This Agreed

I'm with rcm78 and Hard & Heavy.
I have the 100CL & UL. Bonded with CL straight away...must be the EL34's.
The 100CL has the half power switch as well.

And yes, played thru a VHT cab is pure win

The CL is one of my favorite amps. I actually tracked my bands cd with a 50/st which is also great!

Hey man, I've had just about every single high gainer out there including 3 ultraleads, and a couple clx's. My fav. Hands down is the 100Cl.
Amazing amp. The key might just be in its simplicity.

The 50 and 100 cl are both world class amps imho. Agreed they sound their best with the VHT cabs but I think they can sound good with other cabs as long as you know how to adjust your eq for the other speakers. Built like a tank and Steve Fryette is a class act from everything I gather. I own a Sig X and while it is very different from the CL it has the same Fryette DNA and it's easily as good as anything I have owned\played thru over the years.

As long as you are ok with articulation, string definition and killer tone you should enjoy it :)

I am not all that big of a fan of the CL amps, I've had a 50CL, CLX, and my current UL. I greatly prefer the signature VHT Pittbull preamp sound with a KT88 power section. My 50CL and CLX sounded a lot alike, and my UL sounds much better.
