VHT D Cab w/ P50's thinking about swapping them - Opinions?

Ok so I'm loving my VHT Deliverance Cab but I am starting to notice that ice picky mid range coming through when I play at stage volumes. I have an Orange 2x12 with V30, and they DO NOT have that same ice picky sound coming from them. So I mic the Orange vs the VHT.

So I'm thinking about swapping speakers... and I'm deciding between V30 and GK-100's. I do play in Drop A# with a baritone guitar and/or my 7 string. I don't play crazy metal, more of a melodic hardcore than anything else. I'm leaning towards the K100's because I hear they are great in a front loaded cab.

Has anyone a/b the P50, V30, and K100's?

And I've recently seen GT100 - is that a overpowered GT75? Just curious, because I know bogner uses the GT75/V30 X pattern, how would a GT100/GK100 X pattern sound? Thanks!

The V30 and P50 both have a midrange hump. The K100 is a flat balanced speaker that has a great bass voice. Since you use drop tuning you might really like the K100 ?

The ice pick may be a product of the cab not the speaker ..... just a guess since I am not there....

If you decide to sell the P50 send me a PM with price .... I might be interested.

The P50s can be harsh, and it's a tradeoff for their tight and aggressive tone and feel. Swapping them out should fix the icepick sound you're getting.

Had a fatbottom 2x12 with p50's and I wasn't a fan. Some love them, but i much prefer greenbacks or g12h.

Really loved the P50Es when I had them in my VHT 4x12. My experience was just the opposite. Really smooth and full but also very unforgiving. A lot of people prefer their tone harsher/crunchier than I do though...

for me it really depends on the amp, for example I have the fat bottom 4x12 I currently have two Engls the Invader 100 and the Savage 120, I like the Invader through the fat bottom cab the Savage not so much.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do yet. I know it's a solid cabinet and I love that it fills the room instead of the lazer beam effect... I'm just not 100% sold on the P50's yet. They don't sound horrible by any means, just don't match my JSX... there just seems to be a super harsh high pitch that comes through every once in a while.

So has anyone ever mixed the G12T100 and the G12K100? I'm curious if that would be like an over powered Gt75/V30 mix type of sound with crazy power.

I'm not sure going from two different speakers in your setup to three different speakers is advisable. Just too much going on and you run the risk of freq's competing too much.
I think four GK100's in the VHT with the two V30's would be your best bet.

I have mixed them.... it would be nothing like a Gt75/V30 mix type of sound.

How did it sound? Was it something you liked?
It was alright ... but nothing I was or currently into.

I was only pointing out these sound nothing like those other speakers at all.

Both me and a friend of mine have FatBottom 2x12 cabs. Mine came with V30's and his P50's. The difference was huge. I never liked the P50 speakers and thought the same as you, very harsh. I think the V30's sound great with the VHT cabs I've heard. I've also tried G12H30's and thought they sounded good, and reissue greenbacks which didn't work at all in my cab. The bottom end didn't hold up at all. Hope this helps.

I loved my D412s, but P50s are my least favorite speaker. I tried H30s (70th Anny), V30s, Vintage Neos, Governors, WGS ET 65s, Green Berets, Veterans, Reapers, and my favorite for these cabs were, by far, was the chinese Greenbacks.

Here's a clip using the chinese greenbacks (I have many more clips) https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=6491756 If chinese greenbacks were tighter I'd never buy another speaker.

Yeah Pete, that does sound great! What amp were you using for that recording?

My band recorded using Diezel VH4 and Diezel and V30 cab mix.... I loved it. I'm playing a Jsx, which I love, and just picked up an Orange 2x12 w/ V30 and again that sounds great! So I'm trying to find a great sound out of the VHT D cab that'll go with my JSX and Orange. Here are some of my band's recordings -

That amp was my DSL with Voodoo's deluxe mod.

I can't seem to get your music to play. I guess I have to have a facebook account!?!?
