So I've heard you guys (and others) rant and rave about this amp all over the forums and I had to check it out myself. I listened to the clips on VHT's web-site and all I can say is WOW, but I go to check out the specs and I am a little disappointed to find out it's a single channel amp with no foot switch at all.

My question is how in the world do you go from clean to dirty at the drop of a dime if need be? I've read that you do it by volume knob on the guitar but does is that really practical in the middle of a song on stage? I admittedly don't use the volume control much on my guitar. I rely more on the volume settings on the amp and there are a lot of my present band’s songs that go from clean to dirty at the click of a stomp box or foot switch. The amp sounds amazing and is in my price range, but it blows my mind that they'd make an amp that can sound so amazing clean and with such great distortion but make it so inflexable during a gig that I'd have to turn around and try to mess with the amp in the middle of a song.

They have other amps in the line that have channel switching and all the bells and whistles. The Deliverence amps were intended to be very simple. You can go clean to dirty with a LP style gtr switching pups back and forth.

Just remember that there was no such thing as 2 or more channel amps until sometime in the late '70s or early '80s. I consider the VHT Deilverance an "old school" type of amp, but with much more distortion and low end on tap. It can sound very modern, but with vintage features. It's an interesting amp for sure and one of the best I've ever owned or heard.

Also, I've only used a clean channel during gigs somewhere around 3% of my entire gigging history. I almost always roll the volume down on the guitar for clean passages. I prefer that gradual roll down from distortion to clean (or vice versa) to the sudden change you get when changing channels using a footswitch.

Chris

I do the same thing, I use the guitar volume to get my clean. It works great to me.

Yeah I've tried their pittbull line and just couldn't get into it. My main axes are ESP EC-1000s so I'll have to try that trick. Thanks!

So basically you're telling me I'm SOL.

I prefer that as well, it sounds more natural but the way several of our songs are written and structured there's just no time to reach down, crank the volume and then start playing the passage. Thanks for the answers.

I saw a D120 this weekend at a GC, but they had the thing sitting on a B52 cab... Sounded pretty good in the few minutes I hacked around with it. The two gain knobs played together interestingly in thinning or thickening the sound. I would have liked to play a little more on a better (or at least a known quantity) cab, but didn't have a lot of time...

Oh, and I only have single channel amps, and can clean up reasonably well just by playing with volume knobs or switching pickups. My bigger issue with the Deliverance is the lack of an effects loop. I also love the footswitchable solo boost/second master volume on my Splawn. Those two features are key for me in any amp.

Wait for the new Sig_X to come out......

I have always been a big fan of channel switching. I finally just got a rack setup with a midi controller. I have an old Rocktron Chameleon and a Peavey Classic 120 and I can get any sound I need for a song at any time. You could always get a Fender Twin or something like that and run an A/B switch to switch between the two.

I don't know about their cabs but their little 212 combos are pretty good.

See reasonably well just doesn't cut it for me....maybe I'm just spoiled with the channel switchers. lol Effects loop would be nice but I can deal with that and the boost by running stuff out front. I'm still debating on the Splawn...wish I could find one in Houston to test drive before I buy though....

Wow! I didn't know Peavey made a 120..very cool!

I've thought about that and in theory it's a GREAT idea, but it's just way too much stuff to haul around from club to club

Yeah, Peavey made some good rack stuff back in the 90's. If you look around at pawn shops you can find these things pretty cheap sometimes.

Yeah, the whole multiple amp setup can be a bit cumbersome. We played a gig this summer with a band that the guitar player had two JCM 900 half stacks. I asked if he had them set up differently ala clean/dirty and he said no, he had them set up identical, he just liked the way they sounded together. I thought it was bit of overkill especially when they where only mic'ing one of the amps.

I've had channel switchers before. I think that I came to the realization that I don't use a clean channel all that often. Rolling the volume knob down gets me "clean enough for rock'n'roll." I've also found that the single channel heads I've had (JCM800 2204 and Splawn Competition) have sounded better than the channel switchers (JCM800 2205, TSL60, Mark IV).

That being said, I wouldn't kick a quickrod out of bed....

Hmm...I wonder if he knows that the one JCM 900 head can run two cabs?

Exactly! Aside from the sound and feel of the amp, one of the things I love about it is the D60 reminds me of the good old days back in the 80's when I was gigging with my JMP. I've actually grown fond of the "lack of versatility" of the D60. I've gone full circle I guess.

me too.

When I need to "channel change" with a single channel amp I use my Roger Mayer Voodo Vibe it has a volume on it. You can boost or cut with it. There are many pedals that have a volume on them that could be used this way, if the amp works with the volume well. Sigx is what you want. I like all the VHT amps. But the Deliverance is the best of the ones I have tried for me. I am waiting on a Sigx.

I'll have to check that pedal out..thanks for the tip! Anyone have any idea when the SigX is supposed to come out?
