VHT/Fryette clx vs ul?

Is there a big difference between a CLX and UL?
Anyone here ever play both?
Looks like the main difference is the power amp tubes.

Power tube setup, and the transformers are also different part numbers. The only other thing is that the CLX can be outfitted with reverb from the factory.

Honestly, I think I wish I had a UL instead of my CLX because I'm such a huge fan of 88's.

I sold my CLX and plan to get the UL ... sometime. :)
 
I don't remember them being that similar feel and tone wise.

Very different. I know you had a Herbert and obviously my old 50CL, so you probably have your own comparison between those two amps. The CLX and 50CL aren't all that different, just more features and headroom.
 
If you buy a UL, and are still interested in trying a CLX, come on over and if you like it more than the UL I will trade you amps, I would just need to swap headshells though.

Cool. thanks for the offer. I'm looking for a second amp and trying to narrow the search.
I don't want it to be too close to the diezel but want it to mix well with it if I go that route.
I really liked the 50cl but I felt like I had to dime the gain and run a boost in front to get the tone I wanted.
I'm assuming the clx and ul wouldn't need to be boosted..
The other thing I'm looking at is a jvm marshall.
 
I boost my CLX, but I also boost my Herbert and everything else for that matter. It's been a couple years since I played that 50CL, but it seems to me that the gain is about the same with my CLX, maybe just a touch more, but not much. Pittbulls are just dry amps and don't have an overly saturated tone to them, which is why I use a boost.

I'd go with a Pittbull all day long before a Marshall, but I don't like Marshalls. :yes:
