Well, I've decided I'm going to pick up a VHT Ultra Lead next month and I know how much it loves the VHT cab....I guess my question is do you guys think a front loaded Splawn cab with the VHT speakers will work just as well if not better than the VHT cab with it?

What are your experiences as far as what cabs worked well with your Ultra Leads?

I'm playing my CLX through my Diezel cab that has V30's and K100's in an X. Sounds pretty good, but having owned a 50CL and a VHT Fatbottom 412 cab in the past, I can tell my CLX isn't giving me the full on "Fryette" tone using an incorrect cab.

I'm sure a splawn cab with the P50's would work good, but I wouldn't say better. Fryette builds a nice cab that is suprisingly light weight. Unless you have a line on 4 used P50's, for what they cost new, I'd just buy an used VHT cab and then you have the correct matching cab.

Sounds logical :)

Also, I see you have a Herbert and a Cobra....can you give me a short comparison of those 3 heads? I loooved the Herbert AND Cobra I owned but, did not dig the Herbert in a band mix (maybe I used too much midcut) I only liked it with the midcut on.

Ever run the VHT with either of those amp? how'd it sound?

I'm not much of an Eminence speaker fan so, I never wanted a stock VHT cab to go along with my U-L. I use a Bogner Uberkab 4X12 or a Mesa 3/4 Back 2X12. Sounds phenomenal thru either.

I had a UL a while back.....and had 2 cabs, 1 V30 loaded cab and 1 stock VHT cab....I'll be honest...it was no comparison the VHT cabinet sounded way better. I'm just wondering if a Splawn frontloaded cab with those same speakers will sound even better as the only problem I had with the VHT FB was it was a bit directional.

I would think they p50E's would work well in a frontloader splawn cab. I use the 50 CL with a VHT cab with the p50e's. My splawn cab is rear loaded with man o wars and guvnors

BTW, I'm actually gonna go with a CL100 instead of the UL. It's sad that the only reason I want to get a front loaded Splawn cab with P50e's is because I'm getting a rear loaded Splawn cab for my 6505......and what can I say I like matching cabs :) It'll look nice and symetrical lol having said that...if I happen upon a good deal on a straight VHT cab I'll probably just hop on it.

Am I retarded?!?!?!? I think so.

why dont you try a deliverance cab? theyre supposed to be less directional and a bit more open i think.

I loved my FB412 cabs and my D412 cabs, but I never really liked the P50s. If you liked the P50s then you may like those speakers in a Splawn front loader. I certainly don't think it will be a mismatch for the UL.

I have been playing my Sig: X through my Mojo 4x12 that has 2 P50-E's and 2 Hellatone 60L's. It sounds fantastic.

That's pretty much exactly what I needed to hear :) I wanted to make sure it was the speakers giving the VHT heads their mojo and not only their cabs.

THose P50's definitely have their own character.

Also, has anyone played a VHT CL50 and CL100 side by side? is their a big difference in the low end thunder? Just wondering bc I have a lead on a VHT CL50 w/eq and I'm not sure if I should hold out for a 100 watter.

I owned a 50CL, but never have played a 100CL. I could get plenty of bass out of the 50CL, the 6 band EQ is extremely powerful. I just noticed that at pretty high volumes is when the bottom end would start getting muddy.

Well I would never crank it past gigging/jamming volumes anyways :) Does it stay tight with plenty of low end at those volumes?

Did you boost yours? or would it be plenty tight and gainy enough without one?

I owned that same 50cl that RJF is talking about for a while.
I really regret selling it but at the time I couldn't own two amps and I had my eye on something else.
I used a fulltone fulldrive with it and loved it. I set it up with just a little clean boost and it really woke that amp up.
I hope I come across another one. That or a Ul 100.
Try to get a fatbottom cab if you can.
I tried that amp with a marshall cab and a Diezel cab and it sounded wayy better through the fatbottom cab.

I feel you Tom, I just picked up a VHT CLX here 10 days or so ago and am loving having a Pittbull under my roof again.

Dimebag11,
I never boosted mine, and as Tom just said, boosting the front end does seem to make a big difference. My TS808 really makes my CLX crunch up and get even tighter.

might want to talk to Scott Splawn before deciding what/how to do it. i've heard that it would be really hard to put speakers in the Splawn front loads, and that you'd most likely want to send the speakers in and have Splawn put them in.

and try before buy with on the CL, the one i had wasn't anywhere near as cool as the rest of the VHT offerings.

Well, I loved the UL I had :) So, I'm sure the CL won't be that far off...plus, I usually prefer the saturated mids of an EL34 Power Section. I've tried the Deliverance though, I hated it.
