VHX power tubes - listing said kt77 but it has el34

I found a used vhx from Chicago music exchange (serial number 013) in like new condition. The listing said it had kt77 power tubes but When it came it had el34’s. I thought I had read somewhere that the power tubes in the VHX can not be changed . Is this the case, or can they be changed like other amps? I have 77’s in my vhx and prefer the lower end and thump of them. There’s so few of these out there that most people are speculating . I would like to know for sure . Thank you !

Diezel uses whatever tubes are reliable at the time. It used to be everything—EL34, 6L6, 6550, KT77, then back to EL34, and so on. I used to love KT77s, but a couple of JJ sets died on me really quickly, so these days I prefer TAD EL34s a bit more.

For what it’s worth, they all sound very similar—it’s really just a matter of making small adjustments to the Deep and Presence knobs. So I wouldn’t stress too much about which tube type you’re using.

Store might not know the full story, so they just copy and paste whatever description they find online.

Peter only used KT77 because he could not get EL34 that were reliable at one point in time.

The KTs are a replacement for the 34s. They have the punch of the 34s and a bottom end closer to a 6L6. I still use them in my Einstein and Dmoll.

You can bias any of these power tubes into the VHX: KT77, EL34, 6L6,
but you need to bias the amp. It has Dual Bias controls inside to bias the pairs.
Take it to a professional if you haven't done it before.

Also, I like my VH4 and my VHX with KT77s.
And I have a used Herbert Mk3 coming in that has KT77s too.

I cannot tell why, but I prefer the EL34.
Also swapped back to them in VH4
