I remember I loved his Meltdown album, IIRC it's not really typical of his style, more hard-rock than neoclassic shred.
Ditto
Meltdown was the changeover point away from neo-classical that got my attention
Vinnie appeared for Ibanez at the same time as Satriani and was hailed as an alternate picking monster
his REH instructional video was a big seller as a result
I watched it at a good friends of mines, with my mouth open
That was the start of the modern Ibanez renaissance, just before Vai got involved
I saw him at a guitar expo years ago when he played a live showcase for Ernie Ball or maybe Yamaha (?) and when they asked for questions from the floor
I cheekily asked him what his next guitar endorsement deal might be
he was changing companies every couple of years
he rolled with it and said he might endorse MacDonalds
he moved onto another company soon after that
he has settled with Dean for a good while now and it is a great fit
his tones on To The Core with that guitar and an Engl head are inspiring
looks like Blackstar for the gig posted
