Check it out! All original '80-'81 Charvel Explorer, 5 digit serial #, painted neck, in incredible condition with original case. It's hard to believe the condition it is in, especially the paint. Appears to have sat in the case in some collection for a million years. Never routed for a Floyd either...

As rare as they come, dudes!:

'80-'81 Navy Blue Charvel Explorer

This is one I'd love to have...

Interesting guitar.

On a related note, I happen to watch the Eddie Murphy movie "48 Hours" the other night and I noticed The Bus Boys' Vic Johnson playing a Charvel Star. That movie was released in 1982 so I figure it was filmed several months/a year before that and I was thinking Vic's guitar had to be one of the earliest Charvels.

Pre-Pros go back to the '78 timeframe...

Wow...its got Seymore Duncan pickups. Are those better than Seymour Duncan?

Is this an Alder Body with painted maple neck? Not that I can pull the trigger either. Just Curious.

Nice, but NOT worth that kinda change!

Plus, I would rather have an original Kelly, with those sharp cut outs they decided to eliminate!

It's rare and cool, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's that valuable. It's not what most associate with Charvel: raw maple-necked hotrod Strats, preferably with wild strips or some other graphic. At least IMHO.

It's valuable to Charvel collectors. 5 digit serial numbers are really rare and this has other rare features as well.

It's rarity makes it cool and intersting. But to be valuable first means it must be desirable, which does not necessarily follow from simply being rare. And for $10,000, it would need to be really desirable.

It's desirable to knowledgable Charvel collectors, it just isn't desirable to you. I would love to have it. Would I pay ten large for it? No, but he is taking offers. As I said, I believe he's just trying to hit a home run with the pricing he has. It will likely sell for far less, but it will still garner more than many other original Charvels get now...
