So I picked this thing up at an estate sale for dirt cheap.

Was wondering if anyone knew any info on this specific run of MIJ Hondo LPs?

I wasn’t able to find much on it.
Most of what I could surmise was
the maple board,
black inlays,
and the dimarzios (think that they’re probably Megadrives), they just say “dimarzio made in the USA on the back of them,
and that it’s most likely a early-mid 70s model.

Got it set up recently, plays great and sounds great.

Also wondering how much y’all think it’s worth?

Honestly impossible to say. Mij are the ones to get and also the solid wood ones. Most were plywood. I tried to get an identical one on marketplace last month for a little over a hundred. On the other hand I have seen them go upwards of 4-500. Just have to do a deep dive and research it…and there’s not much info out there. I think they look cool as shit. If it plays and sounds good then rock it. Now the interesting thing about yours is the dimarzio pups. I would be curious to see what they are worth. If you find anything out let me know! I also have a buddy with a 70’s les Paul custom that is solid maple and has all black binding and blocks. I have lusted for that thing forever…which is why I wanted that hondo I found.

Thank you! And likewise, any info would be awesome.

For all the deep diving I did I found that odds are hondo did a run at the same brief time Gibson did a run of maple top and black inlays.

As for the dimarzios these specifically are probably some of the first ones they Hondo used when they initially partnered with dimarzio for a brief period in the 70s.

I can’t find a single example of 70s pups that also have the black stripe going along one of the coils on each of the dual coils.

Update : just found these on eBay. There is no other information on the listing though about them but this is what the pups look like underneath.

When I was in high school, my girlfriend's brother gave me his brother's Hondo and never gelled with it. Years later I unscrewed the neck and used it for a Halloween costume as an impaled rock star. Lol
