Here I was thinking It was like comparing apples to car tires.
Thank you for schooling me. I see the connection now. Overpaying for a brand name.
Unquestionably the finest made. I will be sure to run to TGP and study up. I too aspire to the finer things in life. :lol: :LOL:

Back on topic... I think you would like the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary pickups. If it has to be SD, then I'd try the Seth Lover. The 36th is a potted Alnico V, and the SL is an non-potted Alnico II. If you're using high gain/volume, I'd go with the 36th Anniversary.

I have a cream under raw nickel cover Wolfetone Marshallhead w/Alnico II non-potted that I may sell. The bottom-end is a bit more than I needed, so I went with the Marshallhead MKII.

That Dave Grissom sig pickup was amazing. It made me reconsider vintage output pickups altogether. I could not find a bad tone in the thing

I'm researching all of them. There were many I'd never heard of.
We'll see how it goes!

Has any one else found duncans don't seem to go well with basswood?? I have 2 basswood guitars and every duncan I have tried in them sound like ass. Dimarzios seem to work with them though

JB,custom,custom-custom, demon,jason becker,duncan distortion and a few others always sounded fine for me in basswood?
I use a single 500K volume pot no treble bleed cap.
With the dimarzio's i have to use a 1meg volume pot or they stay too dark.

I guess its all a matter of taste. I have never liked the tone of a jb with basswood

yes and the actual guitar itself ;)
I have played a few basswood guitars with those same pu's and they did not sound very good.
take a EBMM axis for example,very bright guitar so the JB sounded like ass in that one where as a duncan custom-custom sounded amazing in it.
the JB worked wonders in a RG i used to own.
