I've got a MM body and neck that I'm going to put together soon. I'm considering putting in a six-screw vintage style trem. Anyone out there using one? I've built a guitar from a scratch and am no stranger to doing the work to install a 2-poster. But the body is finished and I'd rather not have to put it on my drill press to drill the post holes. Stupid, I know as I'll probably go with a 2-poster any way.

I'd love to get a Bladerunner but they're hard to find and I don't think I want to spend that much. Any way, I'd be very appreciative of any suggestions as to what trem to use.

Thanks.
Dave

I love 6-screw trems even with their imperfections. My favorite by far is the Gotoh 510TS-SF2 (haven't tried the bladerunner yet). Big steel block, very well made, and a thick-push in arm. Not a cheap thin wobbly thing you're used to on a vintage trem.

Warning though - the Gotoh has a big honking nut underneath where the arm goes in. Depending on the way the body is routed, it might rub and that would be very bad. It is also not cheap.

I have a 2012 USA Strat. Once Jerry at Luxxtone set it up. I swear it's as smooth and nice as my OFR, without the range of course, but perfect. I mean I can do divebombs ala Hendrix with it, I can do sweet vibrato flutters, it's all in the set up.

Rez, I assume that's a six-screw?

I've got the 510 (2 post) recesssed on both of my Suhr Moderns. Love that trem. I have considered that one but would not recess it here.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of recessed either. Just feels odd under my hand after playing non-recessed for so many years.

Ya know, they make a vintage style trem with some sort of mechanism that locks the string in at the bridge.
It also comes with a special nut that locks the string from slipping and stay in perfect tune.

Don't know what it's called, but think it's gonna be the next big thing............

I just found a company in the UK I believe called WudTone. They have an interesting bridge plate and block. Reasonably priced as well. Can't find much info on the plate though.

I have a Bladerunner on my MIM strat. Not cheap, but a very nice, smooth, tight, trem. Couldn't be happier. There are other cheaper 6 point trems out there that are good too. I wouldn't route for a 2 point.

This^^^^^^^. It's all about the setup. Ive gotten pretty good at doing my own setups over the years, but there are some good video's on youtube also that go into a lot of detail. Carl Vereyhen comes to mind as having a good one on how he likes his done.

I wouldn't have to route for the 2 point. Just drill the posts as opposed to 6 screws.
