looks like Phil Collen let Viv have his balls back for the night



 
Viv rules...his playing in Dio was a huge influence on me. He just had a more raw, aggressive edge to his playing than a lot of his peers in those days like Lynch, Demartini, Lee, etc (all of whom I like a lot). He commented that he hadn't played that solo in 27 years until he sat in with Steel Panther.
 
Very cool! Gotta love how Viv nailed that Rainbow in the Dark solo! And, how Satch did the keyboard part on his guitar!

I have a "gear" video from the early 90's with Viv saying he loves his Anderson guitars so much, he didn't think he'd every use his Les Paul (Betty) again! Glad to see it being used here!

I wore that tape OUT when it was first released. ;)

Thing about Satchel is...He scares the original guitar players of whatever song Steel Panther covers.. :lol: :LOL:
 
Satchel (Russ) is a terrifyingly good guitarist. like off the charts.

I saw them when they were Metal School at a private party of about 100 people back in 2005 in LA. To this day one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life!! SUPER nice guys!

He should snatch his balls out of Phil's purse more often. :lol: :LOL:

Be nice to see him make a good record of some variety, big waste of talent since The Last in Line. IMO

On facebook he said that was the first time he's played that solo in 27 years
 
I used to watch Dio "Live at the Spectrum" every day after school. Viv just ruled back then.

He owned that solo ! Great tone too.
Brings back memories of when he used to have fire in his playing... saw him several times back in the day, and he never failed to bring it
 
Wow, it was impressive to hear him nail that solo after all this time! Gotta love the Panther.
