Hi guys

Do vocalists use effects on stage? i mean i know sometimes there is deplay etc. But for a band that doesnt have a sound guy or anything like that, and you want say the end of a line to echo out, how can this be done?

Cheers

they do make some self controlled vocal effect units...not sure of any brands or anything, but I know I've seen them.

check the standard MF and such sites...

I'm pretty sure they allow you to setup patches with different settings and I'd be surprised if they didnt have a tap tempo included to help hit the echos on beat.

in my experience in line effect units take away from the vocal punch and clarity, and they also add noise.

The best multi fx unit ive used that doesnt kill the wallet is the tc electrronics mone xl ... its awsome for verbs delays and more... the sound guy will have to run it off an aux send and return it on a channel on the FOH console... no biggie !

The sort of "For whom the bell tolls... time marches on on on on..."? :D

I've been wondering about that myself. I guess most would use a backup singer (other band member) for simulating, if they didn't have a dedicated knob fiddler. :dunno:

TC Electronic has two vocal pedals in the TC Helicon series.

There also is the DigiTech Vocal 300. I saw a band with a Halford-esque vocalist that had one of these which he used for his air raid screams, sounded okay.

There's another one too, but I can't remember what it is called for the life of me, was pretty fancy and a lot more sturdy looking than the DigiTech.

Anyone used a delay pedal for vocal effects?

can/does this work?

I know its not ideal but hopefully can do untill i get something

Looking at the Digitech Vocal 300. Not bad price

I once saw a band where the singer looked like he was using a Zoom guitar multi-fx. Definiately some kind of foot controller. IIRC, it did the job.

My vocalist uses a Korg AX1 (designed for guitar) - put an xlr to 1/4# converter on the mic cable to plug it in and it works great. Delays, reverb, chorus, even some crazy pitch shifter stuff with the expression pedal. I think we got it for like $60.

I like some reverb on the lead vocals, but nothing else.

Yeah i like delay when say you finish a chorus and a strong word and then that is being repeated and fadding out over the next riff/solo
