So I have some bare knuckle pick ups coming, I was thinking about getting a new volume pot (I don't use tone pots), I have a normal 500K cts, has anyone had any experience with the rs or bkp pots??? Any other suggestions

Bourns premium pots......pure awesome. Lasts forever, extremely smooth taper, great feel, built like a tank.

2nd choice would be CTS with custom taper and 10% tolerance. Basically the CTS we offer, and RS and BKP. Very good pots.

Jerry - does Bourn's not make long, split shaft pots for Les Paul's? I was looking for some.

Thanks,
Steve

This...

Yeah, we're using Bourns pots exclusively in all our Luxxtone Guitar builds. A little bit more expensive, but well worth it.

About installation Steve....

The pot has three lugs, like a normal pot. But the middle one is raised up, as you can see in the picture. (blue MID on photo) It's still layed out in a row of three lugs, and it's exactly the same as any other pot, except for the middle lug being higher up.

But, for the ground, you use the proveded ring/washer instead of the back of the pot (red G on photo). So you MUST use that little washer and attach your ground wire to that. So you need to use a wire to attach from the outside lug to the ground washer, instead of bending the lug to the back of the pot for the ground like normally done.

Gotcha Jerry. Thanks for the info and thanks for the special order.

can I just wire all my grounds to the screw in the body?? I do not think there is enough pace for all my grounds!! I have 4 of them besides the body screw

I know it is an elementary question, I have spec'd the wiring multimillion dollar studios for clients, but I just never have done my own guitar work

whats best in a guitar 500k or 1 meg?
thanks

I find that depends on the woods and the pick up its self.

I've finally settled with a pot for my bastard pick up. 1 meg works great for me. its kinda fun to play around.

Not that it's much help, but the Bourns EVH pots that I tried in the new EVH Wolfgang Standard were the best I've ever seen aside from vintage ones... killer rolloff taper and they were low friction too, which made it easy to do volume or tone swells on the fly.

You can do that, as long as all the pots are at least grounded to eachother and one wire goes from the screw with all the grounds in the body to one of the pots.

Just depends on what you want. But generally 500k are in guitars with humbuckers, a 1 meg will sound a little brighter.

just wired this in, big difference, much more clear sounding and defined, thanks again

no..actually all these years of switching around different pots of diff value, I dont really know whats even the recommended. I have a 1 meg pot with a 22ok res and a 680pf cao to keep the treble as I roll off. Im not really sarcastic.. Sardonic yes but ......
