What's up shredders?

Been playing guitar since '81, but never really used wah until past few days. I've had a crybaby laying around for years, and finally a need to use it.

I practiced with it plugged into my Tascam guitar widget and it sounded pretty good. Then I hooked it up to my Mesa Boogie (strat) and there's a HUGE HUGE HUGE signal drop when the wah is kicked on. With it kicked off the amp sounds exactly like normal (I'm actually a little surprised how good the pass thru is). Of course I expected maybe a little drop off but nothing near what I am hearing.

I've seen some comments online from other people with a similar problem. Should I assume there's something wrong with this particular pedal or does the basic GCB-95 cry baby suck this bad, or is this just a wah thing and I need to hook up a boost and compressor to compensate somehow? I hope not option 3 as it would suck to have to turn on 2 or 3 pedals simultaneously just to get a useable wah.

Replace the battery with a good new one.

Tried 3 different brand new batteries with same result. All duracells.
