Has anyone noticed that the triple recto is better for downtuned or seven plus string guitars? As in there is much more bass response?

I didnt notice 'more' bass response, but did notice a much more present and tight bass response.

i would guess it's directly an effect of more headroom being that the triples are 150 watts.

i noticed the same thing between the two a long time ago, and was playing both at stage volumes.

both def. have their own thing going on, i too, gravitated towards the triple.

Man, this info is great! Thanks a ton...

If I may, is the Road King II the best recto available? I know it's versatile and LOVE that but can it give me the Recto gain I desire as well?

Right now I'm leaning toward a triple but may just hold off for a Road King II if I can find one....Thoughts???

never played one.
always wanted to grab one from git cntr and mess with it a few weeks, especially the tube/cab options on the back and see what i could come up with.....but never got around to it..and, well, you know, life happens.

its on my list of amps to get, and return if i dont like though.

There isn't really a "best" Recto. In these threads we always argue like there's huge differences in the sound between each amp, and the truth is that despite their individual quirks they all sound like Rectos.

Some people like the brighter/tighter Rectos. Some like the darker/smoother Rectos. Some people like the ones with more sag and some like the ones that are stiffer. Some like the ones with more compression while others like the ones with less. Some people really like the ones with a good clean channel and others could care less since their amp never changes off the high gain channel.

The only way to know is to try for yourself. Don't let price guide your decision. Just because one version is more expensive or harder to find than another doesn't mean it's the one you'll like best.

Roadking II is same as Roadking I, only difference is that the roadkingII has the mesa lonestar clean channel. Both still have the same individual poweramp as well as rectifier settings- per-channel options. Roadster is the same as a Roadking in that it lacks some of the poweramp options per channel and has a darker voicing overall.

Personally out of playing them all (but the dual channel triple rectifier), it came down to the dual rec Recto-Reborn's and Tremoverb's. Tremoverbs are tighter and have a mid-range voicing that really dominated in a mix - it is also a very simplistic amplifier but still has tonal options without all of the added knobs/switches/features.

As mentioned above play them all and choose what best suites your needs. Realistically i could work with them all - Roadster, Tverb, Dual rec's, Triple, etc. It just depends on personal tastes to narrow them down.

My Reborn Triple Rec is insane. Its everything I wanted my other rectos to be.

I messed around with different tube configurations to really nail what i wanted tonally.

To my ears the 6-KT66's/3-JJ GZ34's and an RFT 12AX7 in V1 sounds pretty damn sick.

I'd say find a reborn dual or triple to check out somewhere.

Although, having said all that, my MKV took a shit on my triple rec recently...

Thats a bad mofo

I've had a series II rectoverb, an old tremoverb, and an old 2 ch blackface triple recto... My favorite by far was the rectoverb. I felt it was the most versatile of the bunch. Real nice cleans.

I disagree a bit here and there with some of the proponents of the Road King, but the one I had sounded better than the Roadster I had... and the versatility is pretty amazing. You could not only switch between bold/spongy on each channel, but could set which power tubes, and even two different cabs for each channel. Whatever you get, post about it on the board and I'm sure someone has already done all the homework regarding preamp tubes and such... I probably didn't give the RK or RS as much a chance as someone who lived with it for a long time. I'm pretty impatient when it comes to amp tones, if I can't get it fairly quickly then I throw it out the door fast.

I've had:

Rectoverb
3 channel triple
Tremoverb
Pre 500 rev C

My favorite is my pre 500 followed by the Tremoverb

was getting a great sound from a Roadster, til I played a Twin Jet right after...like taking a blanket off the cabinet.

+1 for Triple - they say it's not as buzzy
