I’ve got a McNaught Street Lethal (alder, maple neck) that’s bright and snappy and want to darken it a little and give it some low end balls. Tried a Tone Zone and it’s way to pillowy in the lows. I’m thinking Afwayu or Warpig. Anybody have both and can compare? Other suggestions are also welcome. I dig hot pickups.

In this case, i'd say Alnico Warpig

Never tried an Afwayu, but I had a ceramic Warpig in an ESP SRC Horizon (maple neck thru alder) and found it a bit too dull and bassy for my tastes. Dimarzio has some other pickups that are good for thickening up a bright guitar, the Breed is my personal favorite of those.

I have Warpigs in a Jackson baritone dnky and kinda bassy and meh to me. My 2 cents

Afwayu. Not close IMO. But, I'm not a fan of the Warpig.

I’m familiar with the Afwayu. How do they compare?

I had one in a used Jackson bolt on, it was just too congested in the lows, I had to really dial down the low end in the amp to get it useable. I've had the the Afwayu in Alder Charvels and sounded killer...you could dial in too much low end also but it was tighter and much easier to manage. The Jackson was Alder also. More definition and a sweeter top end in the Afwayu.

Definitely sounds like I’d dig the Afwayu more. I’ve heard the same complaints about the Warpig. Too much, too much low, congested, dull, meh. Gonna scratch that one off the list and search high and low for another Afwayu.

I have not tried either of these pickups, but I would consider a crunch lab in the bridge. I really think it sounds great in one of my prestiges.

I do also like the breed @jsp

I haven't used the Warpig to be able to compare the two but I have a couple Afwayus and I doubt you would be disappointed with one. A little darker with more low end is exactly what to expect from one.

I think i need one of them too.

I had a Ceramic Warpig in an alder maple Charvel and still found it way too smooth and dark for my tastes. Had an Afwayu in the same guitar and liked it much better.
