Warren DeMartini on TMS

So who checked out the latest episode of That Metal Show? Warren was playing through a Diezel head and again shitty tones on that show. It seemed like he was really holding back too. At one point they even cut him off to go to a commercial break.

I saw him on TMS and was surprised to see him playing his Diezel VH4 again. I thought he had ditched it for the SLO. I was excited to see him on the show, but his playing left me less than inspired.

I agree. I kept waiting for him to at least pull off a few tasty licks and it never happen.

There is a vacuum in that place that sucks out the tone and ability of good guitar players. Every one I have seen sounds like they are playing through a 1974 alarm clock.

Maybe they mic every players cab with a small clip-on vocal mic.

Seriously though, they must use the audience/room boom mic because I never see anything on the cabs. Come on man, someone needs to throw on at least a 57

I saw it. I thought it seemed like he was really stiff. . .not letting it flow. And, yes the tone was not that great, but I think if he was playing more inspired licks, the tone wouldn't matter so much.

Yup... Diezel VH4 thru a Marshall 1960A. The tone sounded OK for what it was... some low volume wankery. I think they need a new sound-guy on TMS. Pretty much every guitar player's tone sounded sub-par. Even George Lynch's tone was like blah. And he's an all-time favorite of mine.

my buddy and I watched that the other night as well...was great to see warren..but we were thinking 'didn't that sound seem a little stiff'...must be the room...cause it's rare that someone sounds goodon there

Exactly. The only guest musicians on there that have played well have been bass players.



The only guitarist I've heard who I thought had decent tone was Tracii Guns in season 6 (at 1:20 & 8:59

most of the players on there are more or less band players that probably arent use to soloing in front of a live audience without a song or a band to back them up... I know I would totally suck if I was put in that position and can understand the nerves of alot of players...

I HATE HATE HATE plugging-in when in guitar shops. Not that I'm nervous, nor do I suck. But there is ZERO inspiration for me to play off of there. I need to be jamming with a band or at least shredding over some cool background music. Just sitting there, ripping-off lame, tired licks that lack context and substance leaves me completely flat. It's gotten to the point that when I'm in a shop BS'ing with the guys (what I usually do in there), I refuse to sit-down and rip on the occasion that they ask me to do so. It's not a false-modesty "I suck" thing, it's an "I can't stand to hear myself play the same, boring old shite that I've been playing for over two and a half decades and WHY would you guys want to hear me doing that" thing!

This is quite right no matter who you are...I think some of you are being a little hard on your heros here...they are human just like the rest of us...on days and off. I dont think no one can be on all the time. Imho of course.
