He's very musical , with both he and Eric Johnson,the musical/ artistic quality is very high and with less chops but similar also is Gilmour.
So let's say , hypothetically someone has the complete chops to play that type of stuff, then you've got to say "ok what am I going to DO with the techniques" ( and guys like EJ first and then Timmons have raised the bar ) and ultimately Timmons plays very cool , interesting stuff and has some of the best tones I've heard.
Both he and EJ are WAY beyond mere chops..................
I wasn't aware of him until the last year or so and was shocked at how good/great he is on many levels.
