Testing out a few pickups in my Les Paul through the Bogner Uberschall Twin Jet, with all the exact same settings, double mic'd. WB Hell, Bare Knuckle Nailbomb, Wolftone Marshallhead, and Suhr SSH.
I liked the NAILBOMB!!
but I think I'm still looking...I may have the Nailbomb for sale, as It is a regular pickup and I need a nickel or chromed one for the les paul.

anyone ever notice there were 2 different size screws in some pickups?
LIke the normal seymour duncan type, and then some thicker type?
I tried to install another pickup, but the screws didn't fit, couldn't hold up the pickup!

where do i get these bigger screws?

I like them in this order: Nailbomb, Marshallhead, SSV, Hell. It’s a close call between the Nailbomb & Marshallhead though. After about 30 secs into the Nailbomb I’ll think I like it the best. Then I go to the Marshallhead & think maybe the Nailbomb is just a bit dark. The Nailbomb is the most different from the bunch to my ears though that’s for sure.

That's cool you did them with the same settings to really get a feel for the overall difference between them.

The wolftone and suhr sounded so much alike!!! My 2 most favorite ones out of this bunch... I wonder how the aldrich bridge would sound in comparison to those two.

well, if i had more pickups to try right now, I could keep all the settings on the amp, mic positions, and all that the exact same to continue the comparisons.

anyone want to donate some pickups to the testing phase here?
:D

Suhr, to me, sounded more full that Wolftone.
Seemed more balanced, whereas the Marshallhead was more vintage sounding, with more treble and less bass.

both similar, both very tight.
I'd pick the Suhr out of those 2 only.

Suhr is the fattest and heaviest, the Marshallhead is killer tone. The other 2 I didn't like so much

I love the Marshallhead, It has a great Vintage vibe but is also just nasty enough to also do heavier Modern stuff as well. I've had one in my Les Paul for about three years and never had a desire to try anything else.

It was cool hearing it compared to the other pickups and wouldn't mind trying another flavor if I had another Les Paul.

Cool Test!

Also to the OP, how did you record such a good vid, and most peoples sound like crap?

i used 2 mics, both Sennheisers...an MD421 on the left, and an E906 on the right, about an inch or so back from the cab (mesa traditional with v30's). went into a Zoom H4n, set on auto (which is why the audio spikes when I am first starting each pickup). recorded high quality WAV's, then just tossed them in Final Cut Pro, got some pictures, then just output it and uploaded to youtube.
I let them compress the video, but when I output the audio, i kept it highest quality.

took a few minutes, but the WAV's were too large to upload (about 50-60mb each), this was easier. Twin Jet was set on first pickup then didn't change any settings or move the mics for consistency between pickups, just changed pickups each time.

and most of my videos sound like crap unless done this way.
