I'm looking at a guitar that has WCR pickups installed (Crossroads/Godwood models). Anyone have any experience with these? I have never tried them, just wondering if anyone has an opinion. Thanks.

The Goodwoods are very good sounding hot PAF type pickups. Maybe a little boost in the low mids from what I remember?

I had the Godwood set in a Les Paul and was not impressed at all. They were ok but not worth the money. Your getting them already in the guitar so if you dont dig them you can always sell them off.

hey seeing that you I guess still own the godwood pups, what would you compare them to/ Or what is in your opinion the closest pups ?
I actually have the godwoods and the wiring ordered from WCR as of last night. I had 57 classics in a Les paul but wanted more.

I have had godwood bridge and darkburst neck in a lp std right now. Had crossroads bridge darkburst neck in another lp custom. I'm not very good at describing tone but the god wood bridge is a a Paf with an attititude, I like it better than the crossroads bridge godwood sounds meaner.
But they both have a paf ish vibe not modern high gain.

Agree 100%! I am trying to avoid boutique pickups even though the Suhr Aldrich is tempting me. The Rio Grande BBQ and Gibson Bill Lawrence circuit board pickups crushed the Godwood! :)

I have a Crossroads in the neck of my LP Standard. Its a great pickup, cant go wrong with that one.

i like em

had the godwoods for years.

i am actually digging the darkburst set even more these days

Thanks, guys. I missed out on the guitar (a long while ago), but I now have an interest in trying out the Godwoods. I love a good, hot PAF.

I understand avoiding the boutique pickups because of cost. My three PRS guitars are fitted with various Bare Knuckles. While they are really good pickups, they are rather expensive. I'm happy with my DiMarzios in my Ibanez guitars. I have guitars fitted with: PAF Pro, PAF Joe, Mo' Joe, Tone Zone, Air Norton, EVO, etc. I grew up playing DiMarzios in Ibanez guitars and really do like them. For the price, they really are the pickups for me. They also seem to work well with my stable of amps, mostly that hot-rod 80's thing. ;) As with everything tone, YMMV. :D

I'll chime in and say that I very much like my Godwood bridge PU - articulately plucky without being sterile, can get a nice tone that stands out in the mix, the kind of PU that surpises me every now and then with something extra that I did not think was there. I was very pleased with the swap.

Also having fun with the WCR Darkburst neck, good stuff(I hear the Crossroads neck is popular as well). The two PUs really provide an interesting sonic range on my 9+ lb. hunk of mahogany.

Good folk to deal with at WCR, too.

Good experience for me.
