he didnt have to kill them but hey, it is Texas motherfuckers...we can protect our shit with deadly force   That message needs to get out to all the criminals. We hear of this kinda stuff afairly frequently, home owners killing home invasion robbers, car theives (can shoot em from your porch) attempted muggings etc

When you kill a man you take away all he ever was or will be. Seems a bit brutal just for B & E. Does the punishment really fit the crime?

He shot 2 burglars with a shotgun and only killed one of them. The judge should sentence him to 30 days of target practice.

He warned them "move and your dead"

they moved, supposedly towards him, so BAM......end of 2 scumbag criminals.

You'd have to ask the burglars if that property was worth their life, they made that choice. When you violate a person's home you are accepting the risks that go along with that, including the fact that some people may choose to defend that property with deadly force. It's quite simple, really - if you don't think that property is worth dying for then you are advised not to violate that property.

A human life is only worth what that particular human is willing to do to preserve their own life. If you put your life in a stranger's house with the intent to commit a burglary then you obviously don't place much value on your own life, so why should anyone else place more value on your life than you place on your own life?

But it wasn't his home he was defending. Wonder how the judge will see it.

Not to be crass -- and I'm definitely not an NRA, right wing conservative-- but what they WERE was convicted felons... What they WOULD have been was thieves... Punishment fitting the crime? Don't know... Two people who didn't contribute anything to society; in fact, were a negative draw upon it. What do you do when the rehabilitation doesn't work? Why should all of society be punished because these guys were incurable?

Furthermore, they engaged in a highly risky endeavor; one in which they KNEW could result in their deaths or injury. I don't understand how their right to life is deemed more important than a homeowner's right to property when they engage in such behavior.

Remind me never to do crimes in Texas. Remember the song "Midnight Special" I used to be for capitol punishment but lately Iv'e gone soft and think life in prison without chance of parole is the proper way. Rotten tree hugger kids of mine finally got to me.

As long ans you and your tree hugger kids are willing to foot the bill for keeping all those murderers comfortable for the rest of their lives I'm OK with that. But I'm sick of my tax dollars paying for murderers to be housed and taken care of for eternity when their victims and the victims families never had that luxury.

Fuck that, our prisons are already WAY over populated, why should we have to pay for these fucks to live job/responsibility free? If we HAVE to imprison them.....put their asses to work building another prison, making their own food and clothing etc..... make them EARN the life they want so badly to keep.

once I was anti death penalty, then I was cured.
Hate to say it, but statistics show that most violent offenders are not rehabbed in prison. they simply come out worse than they went in. I personally have other things I would rather spend the money on that gets wasted preserving their lives giving them 3 square a day, full medical, dental, eye, and a roof over their heads. how bout we go into the neighborhoods they came from, take a kid that hasnt gone bad yet, and spend that money giving that kid, or a few kids, a decent education so they have a chance to not turn out that way.
come on tree huggers, argue that one ;)

My thinking on prison is that they should work and provide food for themselves and not have it good. Prison should be so bad that if you ever did get out you would never want to go back. Road gangs like in "Cool Hand Luke" would work for me. Those that get life should never be given the chance to be back in society again no matter what. I also think that crimes against children molestors and the like should be locked away forever with no chance of parole. I was for the death penalty for the first 55 years of my life and its strange to go the other way so I do understand where the pro death penalty argument stands. I am getting too mellow in my old age. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said something like "When Jesus said to love your neighbors as yourself I don't think he ment to kill them"

Isn't there a warden in Texas that only lets the inmates have disney channel and weather channel on the tv, makes them sleep outside in tents in the sweltering heat and makes them farm all day or something like that? He said something to the effect of " Stop whining about the heat. Its 120 degrees over in Iraq and our troops are wearing full gear. You have it easy."
