Weber vs Scumback

I am NOT wanting to cause a shit show here. What I'd like to know is how do this speakers - in general - differ from one another at the company and production level. I am under the assumption they were at one time the same thing, a singular product line from a singular company. I am now under the assumption they're two differing companies producing very similar items.

The reason THIS IS NOT TO BE A PISSING MATCH SHITSHOW is that I have a Fryette Deliverance 4x12 loaded with P50E drivers. I've had some good times with the P50Es, you know, great recordings, a couple great gigs, yada yada. They ain't doing it for me - I don't think - anymore. A recent post of mine had me realize "hmmmm, I only have Celestion speakers, V30, AlnicoGolds, G12K100s, etc", and seeing as I'm not a fan of Eminence - I wanted to get a sense as to what Weber/Scumback offered.

I'd like a different sounding cab. Used with "all types of 100W heads" - Bogner, Diezel, etc. What am I looking for? Something that sounds excellent - but different - from the Celestion lineage. I'm not really a "vintage greenback VH" tone seeking kinda guy. I am more into something radical and rich, something with teeth, good balance throughout range, good bass, good highs, and - again - rich. Styles of music? Prog, blues, rock, metal.

Thanks for any input.

Oh boy, here we go..
Weber has always been a separate entity, but they did build the original scums for Jim. I absolutely love my Legacy and Gray Wolf speakers. They are hand built in the USA and sound great. I much prefer them to Eminence and the other "other" brands I've played because they seem to have a natural tone that just sounds right to me, like some of the better Celestions.

Don't own any scums but I've emailed Jim and talked to him on the forum and he seems like a good dude and obviously the Scumbacks are a great product. I can only base this opinion on my encounters with other musicians that I respect very much (like Pete Thorn among others) but the Weber Legacies and Scums seem to be very, very similar, as they should be. Not saying they're identical and I'd like to get them side by side someday.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Legacies only have "similarities" to a couple of the Scums. Jim offers a lot of different speakers across quite a range of tone. Weber has its own thing happening too with the rest of their line.

Is the Legacy the same speaker as the blue frame Scumbacks?

That's basically the reason they were created. Vintage pre rola greenback and g12h30 clones.
Weber made scumbacks before scumback went off on his own.

FWIW I had a few different weber made scumbacks. I would recommend saving your $$$. Buy some used celestions locally.

Aloha, Rob.

I absolutely love my D412 with my D60 but I can't help but wonder what the cab would sound like with G12-65's. prolly not going to happen though since so far, "it ain't broke" so no need to fix it.

Brother V,

Interesting your description of what you want. I played a Diezel cab with the G12K100's and thought it was exactly as you described. Of course I don't want a big 4x12 at the moment, but it was typical Diezel quality.

Please post back what you decide to run with. I am looking to re-cone a small 2x12 to toss in my car for jam sessions etc. It sounds like the same pure unadulterated tone quest going on for a nice in colored driver to let individual amps shine thru.
