Weeknight gigs....ugh

Yeah -- if you're just a local band they do pretty much suck. I've made it pretty clear to the guys I play with that I strongly prefer not to play weeknight gigs.

Dude I hear ya. I use to hate working clubs in the evening then heading to work the next day.
But such is the sacrifice of a musician.

Amen to this. There's just so many negatives to weeknight gigs. For me:

#1. Ya wake up at 7AM, work a full 8-9 hours, commute a total of 1.5 hours, then have to pack up your gear, carry it in, set up, and you're onstage at around 10PM. Finding the energy to sing an hour set is tough for me. Especially cuz as a singer, caffeine is out of the question.

#2. Finding people to come out to weeknight gigs is equally difficult, because by 10PM, they're exhausted too.

#3. NJ is the cover band capital of the world. Almost all weekend slots at the good bars are reserved for cover bands. The Benjamins, Screaming Broccoli, The Nerds, Big Orange Cone, Dog Voices, Lifespeed... all these cover bands. That's what 90% of the poeple want to hear. Naturally, that's what the bars book, because that packs the place.

That being said, I still love gigging. And I enjoy it alot more ever since I ditched my ATA road cases and got some nice soft shell amp bags. :D

Yeah, that's for the birds man... You gotta REALLY love what you're doing to go do. I'm on the fence to say the least... too many Wed night gigs where 5-6 show up, either for nothing or for the other band, and shit talk and yell at your band while your on stage.

I'm almost convinced that it's better to stay and play in Madison Square Bandroom, work on material, get it recorded well, play the few big shows that you can beg/borrow/plead for VERY occassionally while working on investors to tour at least regionally with some sort of promo/distribution/backing of some sort.

All I know is Baton Rouge, and you're not getting very far gigging a lot here.

I = Burned

:)

Lots of places aren't even giving free drink tickets to the bands anymore. And the ones that are, its like, coors light draft only!!!

Weeknight gigs do not equal rock star treatment at all. hahaha.

Get over it ya pansies! Tomorrow is Friday! Put a few drinks in your gullet and rock out!!

Its so hard to get gigs around here, especially that pay anything. I would rather have a weeknight gig over no gigs at all, but I agree they are not ideal....

We normally do weekends but we'll do the occasional weeknight if it makes sense...IE money is close to what we make on weekends and we know there will be a good turnout.

I do weeknights, but earlier than 10:00!
I start work at 5:00am. I usually can get home by 10:30pm.
I get up at 3, so it's a pain, but doable.

Off to a gig soon...playing Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun this week.

I hear ya, been there before. That being said, I still like playing live as much as when I 1st started gigging - I can't do enough of it and I don't seem to get tired of it. And that's after 8+ years of gigging 3-5 nights a week. I'm down to 1-2 nights a week since I moved to L.A. - working on doing more - any night of the week!

Oh man do I hate weeknight gigs. Especially since I have to be to work at 4am. I'm getting waaaaaaaaaay too old to go w/out sleep.

I like this guy's attitude!

I'm lucky, I have a 3 night a week residency so my gear stays set up through the week, and on Thur we finish at 1130pm latest with an hour for dinner (free of charge) at 9pm.

We stopped rehearsing outside of gigs and take the opportunity on a Thur night when there's no people in to work up new songs SO the weeknight gig is a paid rehearsal with a buffet dinner and wine.....I'm not complaining......

I don't know... The best gigs I have played were on weekdays... Maybe it's different here.

i have some soft cases or skb cases.

Glad to see that this douche bumped a 4 year old thread trying to hock some crap.

I hear ya. But if it pays :dunno: A gig is a gig. This is the business we are in after all. I've had some GREAT thursday night shows. But I could totally see earlier in the week (Mon-Weds) being a bust. Other than Thurs-Sat I've found the rest of the week to be hit or miss. I've played some Sunday night shows in college towns and all the kids are usually "raging" at the shows.
