In the 1800's as settlers stocked up on canned goods & supplies on their journey thru the "Gateway to the West" St. Louis also home of the world famous Hawken Rifle. Back then they sealed the seams of metal cans soldered with {Pb} yep LEAD. Like the lead that kills ya.
Cept folks didn't know until they had been eating lead tainted food until they died.
