Hey Guys,

Please welcome Tom Bartlett to Rig-Talk and the Tone Merchants family.

http://www.BartlettWoodworking.com

http://www.BartlettGuitars.com

IMO Tom makes the best vintage Les Paul style guitars with all the old construction methods and has garnered quite a following on the Les Paul forum. I have heard from guys who know and have legit old 1950's Sunburst Les Pauls that Mikes guitars are the best being made anywhere.

We are going to be carrying a very limited # of Toms guitars at the Shop. (Tone Merchants, North Hollywood).

We have 3 build slots in his next run. Two 1959 Sunburst Flametops and One 1958 Goldtop. All 3 of these guitars are spoken for but we will get more build slots in the next run.

Tom is going to document the builds of these guitars here in Rig-Talk for all of us in his new sub-forum.

If you missed the MAX & DERRIG Les Pauls in the 1980's this is your next shot. These are not cheap at $7800 but the only thing comparable is a $300K real one.

Should be cool...More to come.

Congrats Brad and welcome Tom. I read that entire Gear Page thread and was blown away.

Congrats, and Welcome. Those look to be meticulously crafted instruments, love to own one someday.

$7800 is steal comapred to Gibson's wack-a-doo pricing!!

Heck, $7800 isn't that much when compared to something like a fine hollowbody, acoustic, or symphony instrument. Heck, I'd rather do this than buy a Gustavsson. I mean, it isn't for the common man, but it ain't a common piece either.

It took me about 3 seconds to say I wanted one. Same for Rob and our good client who got the 3rd one of our allotment.

Amazing for sure but, a bit out of my price range. Nonetheless, awesome to have such a great builder on RT. Welcome sir!

+1

have to have much respect for someone who is that good with their hands. honoured to have you aboard

Welcome! Read through the entire TGP thread and I can't believe the precision craftsmanship and detail that goes into these axes!

I'll step up to the plate for one of these in the relatively near future... Looks awesome, and ya, his reputation is huge in the Lester fanbase. $8000 is dick compared to a lifetime of inspiration :D

Welcome aboard

Damn these are so sweet looking. I'll wait to see the reviews first (and raise the cash too   )

How do you guys think these will resale? Thats my only worry, Im thinking they won't hold their value as a genuine LP (regardless of it being great or not)

Just ask the guys at MLP...

I would have no concerns buying one of Tom's guitars (if I had that kind of coin).

I'd love to buy one as well, don't get me wrong, I am drooling over these things, for real!

But I don't think I can actually sell one of these for near the amount of money I could put it in... Not that my intention is selling, but if I do have 8k tied in a guitar I have to know that at least I have a guitar that I can sell for good cash if I need the cash... I know that with a Gibson brazilian board 2003 R9 for instance, I can and will get the money I spent on it, and the prices will continue to rise in this bubbled guitar economy...

The resale on a Bartlett is far greater than Gibson is my point. You rarely ever see them for sale used, and when you do they are gone quick.

You can find nice R9s in the $3s all day

You can't touch a Max for under $15k even in this economy, but you can a Bartlett.

I don't understand why you would buy a guitar like this worrying about resale. If tying up $8K in a guitar is at all a concern to you then you can't afford it. Bottom line.

Steve

I don't invest in things that lose money, this guitar will hold it's value better than any Gibson, take it to the bank. Tom has the following, credentials and skills. Les Paul guys in the know that spend bank on these things know the difference too.
