After months of waiting and years of planning, there couldn't be a better time to build my Monster than Halloween weekend.

The first step: Installing the Floyd and seeing how my painted block and claw look:

Hit the first glitch in assembly. The staggered Hipshot tuners I bought go too short at the E and A strings. I'll need to order a couple taller ones.

Pickguard is placed (the Warmoth pickguard needed just the slightest bit of sanding to fit the 2 1/4 neck pocket) and the hole is drilled for the killswitch. Next will be carving the notch for the wheel adjust. The cavities on the body will require a bit of enlarging to fit everything as well.

I love green guitars. Love these types of threads too. Thank you !!!

Detailed build threads rule !

Keep us posted, bro !

Yea. This a bitchin fiddle man.
May have missed it, did you paint it yourself?

And at the risk of getting ahead of my self here, what pickups are you planning to use?

Neck and body were built by Butala and finished by Vancouver Guitar Finishing.

Pickups are Duncan Distortion in the bridge, SSL-6 in the middle and STK-S6 in the neck.

What that on the nut ?

Some kind of protective cover ?

The nut isn't installed yet. That's the clearcoat from the headstock extending up onto the fretboard.

This is where it stands this morning. Floyd installed, straplocks installed, tuners installed and pickguard shaped:

The notch I cut for the truss rod wheel isn't perfect by any means, but I've laid a piece of black electrical tape underneath it to hide the green finish and blend it all together.

Love how you did the pickguard and kill switch. I would have only done 2 pups but that's me.....

For years I'd planned on an HH config, but I have a bunch of those and no Strats so I wanted to squeeze a little more variety out of it. With auto-splits in positions 2 and 4 I'm hoping to get a nice spread of Strat-ish sounds.

That, and the Jake E. Lee setup to me epitomizes 80s cool to me.

for some reason I'm obsessed with going hb and 1 single on a strat. But that Jake set up kills....

Looks awesome!

I gotta ask: what's the appeal of the non-fine tuner Floyd? You need a wrench to change the strings either way and the locking nut IME works extremely well and is so easy to service.

I prefer the feel of a standard nut but, coming from a Les Paul upbringing, I like the added height of the Floyd bridge. So the NFT Floyd to me just seemed to be the best of both worlds, while also being as stable as possible.

It's hard to tell from your pictures, but the tuning peg posts sticking out of the Low E and A strings seems much shorter than the ones for the High E and B strings. You said that the Low E and A string ones are too short. Can we see a pic of all 6 of the tuning posts sticking out the front of the headstock? I'm wondering if you have the lowest staggered ones that are intended for the B and High E installed in the Low E and A positions?

That looks awesome and I am a big fan of green! Can wait till you finish this bad boy!
