wet/dry set ups?

Lately I have been thinking about building a simple wet/dry set up using a simple rack delay and power amp. One of my amps with no loop has a line/direct out, and the other has a loop, but I want to try and bypass it by going from the speaker out to a Suhr ISO box, then into the rack delay. Is this the best method? and would I only need the iso box for the speaker out and not the direct out ? Its my understanding that a direct out can go straight to the effects processor? Pretty new to these types of set-ups, need some help. Thanks guys

If your amp already has a Line out built in, then just hook everything up like this:

Amp 1 ---> Cab 1 (dry)
Line Out from Amp 1 ---> Input of rack FX
Output from rack FX into a Amp 2 (poweramp or FX Loop Return of another amp)
Amp 2 ---> Cab 2 (wet)

So you wouldn't necessarily need a Line Out box for that kind of rig, if your main amp has a built in line out :)

Thanks Dan, now my other amp doesn't have a line out, but it does have an effects loop. I would rather not use the loop because I think it colors the tone. In this case, would I go out of one of the speaker jacks and into the load box, out of the load box into an effects processor ??

In that case, you would just use a Lineout box, like the Suhr ISO lineout which you mentioned earlier :)

Hooked up like this:

Main amp's speaker out --> Suhr ISO lineout box --> Main cab
Lineout --> FX input
Output from FX into Amp 2 (Poweramp or FX Loop Return of another amp)
Amp 2 ---> Cab 2 (wet)

It should sound rediculous :rock:

Can you still run a wet/dry signal with the lineout going to pedal delay/phase/flang etc.. instead of a rack unit then---->into the power out?

Yes, provided your line-out signal goes low enough not to overdrive your pedals.

Oh, and btw, your going into the (separate) poweramp in

Thanks Giga for clarifying

Hey Dan, would running amp-cab 1 dry and the other amp-cab 2 through an effects processor cause a phase problem due to the latency of the effects processor? Would it be better to run amp-cab 2 through a mixer with the effect unit 100% wet/killdry so the effected signal is 100% in phase with the dry signal?

Hey Mike,

You shouldn't have any issues with the method i was talking about, that's how i have used my Wet/Dry setups and it works great with no problems :)

You can of course use a mixer too, which is a great idea. I used a CAE Stereo Line Mixer and it worked very well :rock:
