Hey guys, who has hands-on experience with both of these speakers and can tell me how they compare ?
I have one of my 1960 cabs loaded with old Celestions and I really like them. I also had them in a 2x12 and that worked great too.

Since it seems nearly impossible to find more of those speakers I was thinking to get me some Warehouse equivalents eg the ET65's.

Youtube doesn't really have good comparisonvids that's why I hope you can help me out...

Thanks !

What's wrong with the current production G12-65? Are they any different from the vintage ones?
I'm interested in any comparisons of these as well.

The newer ones seem to be 'crispier' sounding, maybe because they are new and need to be broken in. The ET65s are just too different to me, more V30ish but not the abrasive highs. They sound good but not like original 65s...these are my favorite speakers. I have an '83 800 cab and an '80 checkerboard cab with original 65s and they just blow the doors off of anything else I've had....

I've read that early G12-65s were not designed for guitar only
I've also read that they're highly inconsistent and sound will vary a lot from speaker to speaker
I'd provide links, but I don't remember where I read that
Maybe ask Scumback Speakers... they know about that kinda thing

Yeah, I know... there's even coaxial versions out there.

The same with G12-H100's; there is a T-something code on those and you'd better make sure you have the right ones or they will sound like c**p.

Thanks anyway !

I bought ET-65's under the wrong assumption that I could load a third cab that would sound like my other 2 cabs that have 80's G12-65's.

They are not even in the same family of sound. The ET65's, even after breaking in, have a weird high-mid pump that annoys me with my 2203. It's almost a mechanical sound. The G12-65's are smooth and have a much more pleasing mid presence,

Wow .... not really what I hoped to hear but very useful nevertheless.

Thanks !

I run a pair of et65s with my Marshall silver jubilee and they work great with that amp. As to how they compare to vintage or reissue g12-65s, I have no idea. Actual celestion g12-65s whether vintage or reissue were more than I wanted to spend and the original g12-65s are next to impossible to find in 8ohm versions.
