I have a Peavey Classic 50 that needs two new speakers. Due to monetary constraints and their rave reviews I am going with a pair a Warehouse speakers. I have heard Greenbacks are supposed to sound great with C50's, so I am considering the WGS Green Berets. I am also a fan of Vintage 30, and from what I've read about the Veterans it sounds like they improved upon them.

Does anyone have any experience with both these speakers? I'm concerned the GB's won't be as loud as the Veterans, but I think the GB's tone might be better. I play in a band, so they have to hang with drums/bass/2nd guitar. Thanks.

I've used both. The Veteran 30 will definitely project more, so for your purposes I could recommend it. I might also recommend a combination of Veteran 30 and British Lead since that's what I prefer overall these days for a more well-rounded frequency response. But if you want lots of midrange to cut through a mix, two Veteran 30 will do the job very well.

That being said, you'll still want the sound of the speaker you prefer. If you prefer greenbacks to Vintage 30 you'll probably prefer Green Beret to Veteran 30 (despite how a number of people prefer Veteran 30 to Vintage 30).

Veteran 30s work with Classics, but I think those amps are overly middy, and the Green Berets even them out more. It's not the most wild difference, like the amp is suddenly perfectly balanced out compared to the Veteran 30s, but it's something.

The breakup is probably the more important part. You'll probably make Green Berets break up a heck of a lot if you turned that amp up all the way, so you'd have to determine if you like that or not.

One of my main concerns is projection. I have no direct experience with Greenbacks or Green Berets, I am only going off what I heard works well with the Peavey Classics. I normally prefer Vintage 30's in my cabs. Since I'm going for projection and cut, and don't need too much speaker break-up, I think I'll go with a pair of Veteran 30's.

Cheers!
