What amp do I want?

Been wanting an Orange RV50 or AD30. I don't want a high gain metal amp. I play stuff like The Descendents, Jawbox, Texas Is The Reason, various alternative rock and punk bands from the 90s. I also play some heavier stuff like Refused, but use an overdrive to get a lower gain amp there. I play a few telecasters, humbuckers and single coils. I don't want to spend 1500 new prices not used, preferably closer to 1000, and only want larger brands. If its something available on Zzounds or MF/SW, even better. The AD30 is a stretch but its what I want more than anything, but I won't to see what's cheaper. I had. 5150 III 50w for a bit and it was great. I wouldn't mind having that back but I feel like I'd still be gassing for the Orange. What else is out there at this price? I'm not too worried about wattage, anything 30 plus is good. I'm looking for heads mostly but some combos could be considered. I just don't have a clue what I want lately.

J and Bill from from Jawbox played Marshall JCM 800s when I saw them in '93. I am pretty sure Texas is the Reason did the same. If you look around, you might find a 50 watter in that price range.

very cool! thought about an 800 actually but never owned a Marshall, heard they don't sound good at lower volume and since I play at home in my apartment a lot, that's important. plus I'm probably going to be getting an amp on a payment plan, and new Marshalls are so expensive! but definitely something I can keep a lookout for at the right price.

Good luck with it. I am sure you will find something.

I've heard a few Vox combos that produced a pretty awesome rock tone.

I've owned a 100-watt DSL and a Dark Terror. In my opinion, they both needed to be cranked to sound good at all. The gain was a fizzy mess at low volumes. However, bear in mind that I'm a high-gain junkie. YMMV

i'd suggest a used marshall jvm - they can cover alot of ground low gain to high gain - but since you're just gonna be playing at home you might as well just get some cheaper modelling amp or pedal or something. why spend money on a tube amp if you're never gonna really use it? my jvm sounds ok at lower volumes, but then i can crank it whenever i want anyways so it's not like i "can't" hear it if i want....
