Looking to try something new. Have used stock tubes so far in the SLO. Would like to get a few pre's, some for better blues, some for better metal. $100 per tube limit.

My 93' still has the original stock Chinese 12AX7's and sounds KILLER. I do run KT-66 though and the original 5881's run fine too after 17 years.
I was much happier with the power tube swap than messing with the preamps.

For blues, a NOS 5751 in the V1 is great, especially in concert with the Warren Haynes mod. For Metal,
not much is better than a solid Chinese. Ruby did a run of 7025 SS, or Silver Specials that sound very much
like the original high gain Chinese. If you can find them, they sound great and are relatively cheap.

I got an rft or mullard or 8th gen or ei Ill sell ya..

Get an assortment and try them out.

I think you'll find more tonal difference by changing speakers and cabs than tubes in the SLO. Bill Sundt, Soldano's lead tech, feels this way and I concur.

Check with Shark Diver: he's messed around with tubes in his SLO and there a few threads about this on the Soldano Forum.
