I have gone through many different guitars, pickups, and amps in the pursuit of getting the tone from out of my cranium, into the air. Now, I know there isn't a, per se, a best cab or speaker, but rather a preference of tone. So if you folks could share with me what your preferred cabs/speakers are for metal, and a brief description why, I will greatly cherish your experience.

I am currently using a Marshall 1960 Vintage Bottom, with the British/Marshall V30s. A knowledgeable friend shared with me that there are 3 types of Celestion V30s. Mesa, Marshall, and Chinese.

For metal? Front loaded 4x12 with V30's. Something like the new Diezel cab or Uberkab come to mind.

Best bang for the buck metal cab is a Marshall Mode Four (MF280) 4X12. Best in my opinion are the Bogner Closed Back 4X12 (not just for metal though) and the Uberkab.

GK-100's and V30's....

I want to clarify that the work that Mike did changed the voicing in the power and pre-amp sections of the amp, so its not technically that of the 2203kk sound.

I'm running Mesa Recto 2x12 or 4x12 V30 cabs.

Uberkab is on my short list of wants.

What does the amp sound like now compared to the 2203KK?

Like a Fortin Mod :hys:

No, really, I will have some audio up soon, I promise. But it definitely has that Fortin Snarl

ive heard the mills and orange cabs are awesome as well. cant beat any well made cab with v30's

I've tried a few different speakers with my Fortin modded VTM and prefer the V30s the most. My amp isn't all that picky with speakers though. I've tried GK-85, Celestion UK and Chinese V30s, Marshall V30s, G12T75s, Peavey XXX Shefields, Peavey 5150 Sheffields AND they all sound really good. Just tweak the knobs on the amp a little to get it to sound like I want. But I do like V30s best. I also told him that was the speaker I used when the conversation for the mod started so he may have tweaked the amp with those speakers in mind. But seriously, they all sound good. I have two Peavey VTM rear loaded cabs. One has Celestion V30s from about 1996 and the other one has two Marshall V30s and two chinese V30s. I bet your amp sounds pretty bad ass already with that Marshall "vintage" straight cab. I'd grab another one of those. Of course if you just can't hold back your curiosity and you have some money to spend, then there are a few very well thought of cabs like the VHT Fatbottom cabs, Splawn, Uberkab and of course Orange and Mesa.

Uberkab is beast.

But since were talking speakers, generally I like V30 X 75's.

Currently I have Chinese 30's and WGS 75 knockoffs and it sounds grrreat!

However, The Celestion 65's are what I really have had my eye on. I have only heard clips but wowzor.....

Alot of people also say that Eminence V12 are king but I have never tried them..

I know your just looking for opinions but youtube has lots of really good speaker shootout clips so you can hear for yourself.

And obviously, cab dimensions, guitar wood, pups, cables and fingers will always play a factor.
