First time here so bear with me...

Right, i wanna get a boost pedal but don't know what one to buy....
I currently have a Fat boost v3, but use that to color my tone... and thats at the start of my chain...
I want something that can crank in headroom but not color my tone at the end of my chain...
Pretty much want to be able to take a heavy overdrive sound and make it louder, and thats it. I don't want something with tonal control, just volume...
MXR micro amp good for my application?

What's everyone else's thoughts???

IMO, other than the amp's master volume, you'll probably not find anything better to simply increase the volume than an eq pedal in the loop if the amp has one. A Micro Amp might work well, too, though I've never used one and have only read about them. I owned an OCD for a bit and liked it as a distortion pedal but don't think it's going to do what you're talking about.

yea... an OCD isn't quite what i had in mind as a BOOST.
i already have 3 overdrives and 2 distortions on my board... and i used to use (a couple of years back) a TS808 clone
as a "boost" I didn't like having to constantly adjust the tone every time I "boosted" a different DRIVE pedal...
and that is exactly what the OCD is... a DRIVE, NOT a transparent boost...
I might do some research on the other pedals mentioned though :)

Xotic EP Boost is pretty simple and inexpensive.

Great pedal. I own it. But it does give a 'fattening' boost, not entirely transparent.

It is very transparent running it in an effects loop IMO!!

but i would definitely give a thumbs up on the EP Boost ;)

Get the 48V Pro model if you can. Thing is just off the hook. Seriously the best stomp outta the bunch... Crazy. And it just SLAMS the front end of any amp and pushes it into this natural beautiful overdrive with a simple pure transparent clean boost.

Damn, damn, damn...I opened my pie hole

Mo :D

Lots to try. If you want a simple clean boost contact jerrydyer (a member here). He makes a clean boost called "more." It does just that, adds a bit more.

Other good starting off points:
-OCD
-Suhr Koko boost

have you tried the Suhr Koko boost? Its a great pedal. I like the EWS brute drive as well. Its a gain pedal but with a mid boost side as well and if you keep the drive at 0 and crank the volume its a great boost pedal.

Carl Martin Hydra Boost. Best pure boost I have ever heard or used.

Use a boss GE-7 in the effects loop. You can set the eq flat or to your taste. I have tried many boosts and the is the best solution IMHO.

Whatever you use you have to put it in the fx loop, otherwise preamp gain will be added.

I've always have been cautious about this though because I've heard this could screw with the transformers.
