Looks like the band thing is going to happen for me soon. I need to go thru quite a few of my guitars and do setups, etc. Think im going to switch things down to 9's just to make life easy on myself.

Thinking about maybe ernieball slinkies or fenders but not sure. Have used GHS Boomers, Daddario's and Snake oil's in the past...

What brand are you guys using and why?

Dean Markley Signature series 9-42 on my Strat and 9-46 on my LP Custom.

I can get much longer life outta these, as my acid sweat kills other strings.. not Dean Markleys though! Plus they sound great consistently and they feel good to play!

Same for me only I use 10-46's for standard tuning.

D'Addarios 9-54 (7 string). Longest lasting for the price. I can get a few months out of these strings before I need to change them. Then again, my sweat is barely acidic in the first place.

Went from Elixer to Ernie Ball (10's). I like the feel and sound of the Ernie Ball, but they don't last much longer than a week or so with normal playing. I also have a pack of D'Addario that I'm gonna try out.

D'Addario 10-46

I went back to DR for a few packs, that was a mistake....

dadarios lose their "newness" for me after a couple of days, I quit useing them about a year ago when I sent an email to them questioning why they would wear out like that even on a guitar that isnt played at all. After no response I found a new string supplier the EB Slinky's stay newer to me and longer. Even on my guitar played everday I can go for months and they still have the new slick feel to them.

I was changing daddario's every week to every other week. Even on the old squier start which I rarely play (maybe 20 minutes a month if that)

GHS Fatties.... because you can get 10 sets for $20 at Guitar Center.... and yes, I go through them in a hurry when we are gigging.

For the 7s I agree, for some reason the D'Addarios work great

LP type 10s lite and superstrats 9-42s GHS boomers, I buys them by the case.

I use GHS Boomers 10's on my Les Pauls and 9's on my strats. I like how they never break and when you stretch them good they really stay in tune and settle on a guitar well. Plus, they last awhile.

I use elixir nanoweb's on my acoustics in their medium guage. I don't play acoustic much, but the nanowebs work great as opposed to the normal bronze strings that oxidize and sound crappy.

Since I started working at a music store ive tried everything we carry for electric guitar at least 3 or 4 times. Heres what I can tell you....

Daddario - What I originally played since i was a little kid, They still make an EXCELLENT and consistent string. It's pretty much a stock or standard "safe" string that we sell to customers who don't know what they need. Pretty bright for the first day but then they die off fairly fast, Not a super smooth feel but not bad either. Good strings!

Dean Markley - Blue steels are a pet peeve of mine, to me they are kinda dull and just never last the way the should...Not reccomended by me, but i know guys that SWEAR by these. I had many problems with strings breaking here.

GHS - Another pretty stock string, These feel a bit rougher to me than daddario, They also seem a little duller in sound. They do stay that way though and are pretty consistent, Definatly last longer than daddario's

Ernie Ball - I love the feel and sound of Ernies, no matter what they are ... They have a certain smoothness and bite, they kinda SNAP if you know what I mean. Only gripe with ernies is that they really die fast. Other then that, they ROCK!

DR - Ive had such great success with some of there stuff, but not all of it. These are definatly picky strings! the DR pure blues work EXCELLENT on strats and Tele's , the compression winding definatly helps tuning stability and makes the string VERY smooth. Smoothest of all id have to say, they are a bit stiffer though so be careful with gauge selection. The DR tite fits are KILLLLLLLLLLLLLER on Les Pauls, they just go together like pea's and carrots. These strings last forever... not to mention they are great guys over there!

Elixer - To me these are decent but I just dont dig the coated strings, they seem darker sounding which i guess is cool if you wanted to tame a bright guitar a bit, But overall they just dont interest me a bit!

in conclusion , finding the right string is definatly a VERY personal thing, there are great things about all these strings and some work better then others on Certain guitars and for Certain styles...

I've been using EB Slinky's since 1991....I've never had a sees a reason to change
Although, my Taylor acoustic came with elixir...and I'm loving those.

I like Dean Markley NickelSteel Electric. Med .11 thru .52. Usually use the wound G. Tuned down two steps to C. Ends up feeling pretty close to 10s in standard tuning.

I normally use EB regular slinky for LP type and Super slinky for strat types. Another string I use is the power brites from austria , they cost alot but last quite a while and give out awesome tone.
