I'm still on a mission to find a useable powered mixer and I'm telling you, there is all sorts of junk out there. I really miss the ole reverb spring. Todays mixers are not very impressive imo. But here is my question. I am very close to purchasing this package.

The carvin stuff is pretty descent. I had a 6 ch 200watt carvin head for 11 years before it finally punched out. I used for 2-3 rehearsals a week plus for shows at all the small venues. Oh, and it was mostly metal going thru it. Alot of screamin into it. If I didnt get my current Mackie for next to nothing, i would have grabbed another carvin.

I have the smaller version of that (the 800) and it is loud as hell. I did however have to send the first 2 back because the first one caught fire and the second just didn't work. There was a design flaw that they have since fixed.
For the $$ it seems pretty good. I use it at rehearsal and my kids use it for karaoke.

The biggest thing I look for in a powered mixer is a gain knob, many powered mixers just have a level. Its hard to set the gain structure with out a gain knob. Any reason you are limiting yourself to powered mixers?

In my last band we used an 8 channel Carvin mixer (non-powered). It was pretty good, decent pres.

yes, cause I'm old and fat, and I have enough crap to hook up as it is.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has one of these. There is not much out there on reveiws. The head is a little pricey, but if it delivers what it says...its worth it.

You can always ask here http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/ or at the HC live sound forums. Some very savvy guys over there, it is easy to get overwhelmed though.

The issue with Carvin gear, especially the PA stuff, is that if it dies, it needs to go back to CA. Our local repair guy won't even touch the stuff, mainly because he has too much trouble getting parts from Carvin to do repairs.

$.02

Its more like "when" it dies. Peavey has an 8 channel mixer with all the bells and whistles. They work and sound decent. Around $600.00 I think. Pair it with a pair or Yorkville YX15 speakers and you'll have a good sounding powerful little system.

Yorkville has some killer powered mixers, but they are quite pricey.

When no system is provided my band uses a Yorkville powered board with Yorkville Elite speakers and subs...excellent sound and lots of headroom. I prefer using our Yorkville system over 90% of the house systems we have to use.

Yorkville makes some great stuff. I had a full Elite powered system, sounded fantastic!

I bet...I used to do just sound for bands and most of the time I just used the two 1000 watt Elite speakers with two subs.
Very little eq needed, they just sound right.
