Love my engl cabs with v30s but have an old Ada 2x12 cab that I want to try some different speakers in. Going with v30s to make a portable 212 or maybe try these eminence in it for variety. Anyone have experience with these?

I have not tried them, but Mick Thompson is one of the coolest guys in music. When I was young, he took the time to sit down and talk to me about guitar and music...this was right before Slipknot hit it big. I always had a huge amount of respect for him, because he was the the first "rockstar" to actually geek out and talk tone with me that I ever talked to.

That's cool. You may not know this, but he's actually aged into an arrogant dickhead.

He also has no class. Cussing is one thing, but to this extent?? He's a douche. Classless douche.

I bought them and thought they were way overhyped by those wonderful YT gear influencers. Shocker, I know.

The speaker is not bad but sort of dull and flat. It sounds like a deflated V30 if that makes sense. They hold their value pretty well and I broke even when I sold them so if you wanna give it shot, I say go for it.

OP, what are you after? Eminence does have some good offerings. I certainly wouldn't base my decision on his name being on it.

He used K100's, I believe, for a long time in his Rivera cabs.

I think a couple Greenbacks paired with the V30 cab might be a thing of beauty.

What head???

Can confirm. He was a dick when they were nobodies.

Also the answer is G12K-85 / 100

I had the chance to buy one of his VHT Pittbulls on the cheap but i was a n00b and didnt “know” what VHT was so i was stupid and bought a Fender Cybertwin, bc i knew that brand. I could punch myself in the nuts over that one like 18 years later.

Damn. That sucks.. Was it cheap??

Yeah, you could definitely get some punch out of the 85's or 100's. Kinda fizzy until they're wound up. I've tried Swamp Thangs in a 2x12 that punched pretty hard, and pretty smooth on the highs too.

Yeah i think it was like $450 for his 2x12 vht combo FML. Not cheap about 20 years ago but it was still a hell of a good deal in retrospect.

Bingo….. a soft v30 that is afraid of high end.

Yes! That’s a better description actually. It reminded me of my K100 but with less depth. Just no redeeming qualities I could find with it other than it does compliment and mix well with other speakers but on its own, forget about it.

Engl Invader 2 is the head. I’m not sure if I want a different flavor for this cab or just go with v30s so I don’t have to move my big cabs
