Recording an album on a non-existant budget...playing everything (except drums) and engineering/mixing also. Proceeds will be donated to Hasbro Children's Hospital.

This is a song called Hannah's Song that will be on Voiceless. It's not the full song but should give you an idea. I'm learning as I go and having fun in the process. How's it sounding on other types of speakers?

Thanks for the listen...glad to hear it sounded ok. Anyone else?

mix sounds good ,overall it seem kinda bright though . BUT I'm listening on my lap top at work so that probably plays into the equation .
I hate mixing my experience is I get it sounding good on my monitors so I burn a copy then listen to it on another system and something is off balance .

That's what I'm trying to accomplish...getting it sounding ok on a variety of speakers. I'm new to this. It sounds good on my monitors and also in my cars so far.

I like it over all.

These are my nit-pick'n comments:

IMHO I think the kick could use a little 70hz or 80hz bump to give it a bit more punch. Also, the kick, to my ears, has a tad too much high-end beater click. I imagine the kick sounds great when you solo it, however, it's a bit undefined in the mix.

I love the bass tone...I really can't seem to get that in my mixes...great job! The guitars sound good but not really in earcandy territory.

I dig the song and the playing is excellent!

Oops...I meant 70 to 80 "hz" NOT "k."

If I heard this on the radio I would definitely give it a listen! :D

sounds pretty good! I would bring the rhythm Down just a TAD, or the drums up a Tad. Right now its pretty guitar up front. I think its just a tad bright in a few instruments, like the hi-hat and acoustic sound just slightly too bright in the top end, making them come off as thin rather then full. overall pretty great!!!

The acoustic in the intro and ride/hi-hat (the one with the high tick and ting sound) are a bit on the bright side, but overall, the mix sounds pretty good on my system.

Cool man, so what's Hannah's story?

Listened on $20 radio shack headphones, but I've had them for yrs... sounds good to me. As others have mentioned the intro is a tad bright, but I see that as the combo of the particular instruments right there and not necessarily an eq'ing issue. It does help with big 3d sound though.

Using reaper, right? If you're so inclined, might try using the reacompx vst on the main mix, with only one band active (7k-10k), and pull it down a couple of db. envelope that in the intro to and ramp it back to zero as things come into the mix. If that test works then move it to the cymbals and acoustic, and out of the main mix... but honestly I'm not sure I'd even bother (from what I'm hearing).

Guitar tone is good and especially for the leads. however I prefer a little less of a mid tone for the rhythm. I'd eq the rhythms a little to make it sound a little fuller (up the highs a tad and possibly lows). leads are good to go...

Thanks so much for listening and the feedback everyone!! I'm taking notes and hope to apply some when final mixing comes up.

The bass is just straight into my interface. It's a G&L precision bass that I borrowed from a friend...it takes me a bit to get going on it but once I get comfortable it's really easy to play and has really good natural tone to it.

The guitars are all through my digitech iPB board...I've pretty much decided to go the modeler route with this album as I just don't have the space or capability (or budget) to use my DSL. The album is for charity so any money I raise is getting donated.

And Hannah's story...well, Hannah is my younger daughter and it's just a little riff she's always liked that I play so I decided to make a song out of it and put it on the album. My older daughter, Gabrielle, is battling Crohn's disease and she was the inspiration for me doing this project. She will also have a song on the album (Brie's Song). All monies raised will go to Hasbro Children's Hospital towards Crohn's research.

Hoping all my fellow guitar buddies will pick up a copy when it's done and support the cause. I'm hoping to be done sometime in February. 11 tracks on the album (1 is a bonus track)...ranges from what you hear here to acoustic pretty stuff to heavier/80's style stuff. I even have a piano type tune in there as well. I'm playing everything and a friend of mine is playing the drums with a V drums kit triggered into Superior drummer. He will be helping me with the final mixes as he has more experience than I do with it, especially drums sounds.
