Just wondering what effects other people used for their Rhythems.

I am basically meaning for hard rock and eighties type metal.

I am real happy with my solo patches but never really been happy adding effects to rhythems.

Have been using just a little verb but not sure if it sounds better with out it.

Anyway just curious.

A little room and anywhere from 25-50ms delay.

Leads I pull the plug on Niagra Falls........................

I had am mpx-1 and didn't think it was all that hot but could haver been me !

The 3000 s sound great.

mostly just been using a touch of verb, but i think im gonna try that super short delay trick and see how it sounds.

Yeah I have been messin with the short slap back delay. Sounds ok I guess.

I think I just need an Eventide. :aww:

Rhythms are bone dry as are about half my leads. There always a little ambient reverb from the room. More if the bar is empty

Usually a slapback delay, and depending on what I´m gunning for a bit of micro pitch, chorus or (rarely) flanger. I don´t use much reverb in my rig these days, if it turns out I need it I normally add it in post or at the desk.

It really depends on the song, but generally I dont put effects on what usually are tight, crunchy rhythm parts. It just seems to take a bit away from the impact of the track. Sometimes I will put an old REV7 "live referance" patch in there just to give it some depth, I always keep it down to less than 30%. you cant really tell its been added until you bypass it (thats the beauty of it) It sounds like a really good room, not a conventional reverb at all

Rhythm is generally dry unless I'm playing slow stuff, in which case I'll add some tape delay to add some ambience or something.

The biggest enemy in low and mid level gigs is clarity....a bunch of reverb/delay/swirly swirl fx can make your notes indistinguishable

Hard rock Hi Gain rhythms? DRY

My clean and overdrive I use a little reverb. On heavy rhythm, mostly dry. Lead, depends a little reverb and or delay.

Dry ....99% of the time. A little flange sometimes.

I play all sorts of stuff. The effects are more for what the song itself calls for, rather than when it was written.
I basically add effects for my own taste, irrespective of what song I am playing.

I always have a little bit of reverb on just to wetten the signal. There's a spring tank in the amp so I just set that to 2.

I like to use a slow flanger effect on clean tone parts with some echo trails, both rhythm and (single note) leads. A phaser is good for something different, or to really "chop up" a rhythm bit- Andy Summers does it the best in Message in a Bottle where he uses a Phase 90 for just a few seconds to really goo up his flanged guitar sound. I love it.
I try to mix in a chorus effect for distorted tones just to enrich a harmonic complexity (sounds fancy I know...basically it's a slight phasey swirl as the notes ring) but it can be tricky trying to get it to sound right. I don't like the low end thunk to get muddied up, or sound too washy or wobbly or that digital 80s side-to-side-whacked sound. I'm starting to think if it's just a result of the comb filtering when the modulated and unmodulated frequencies mix.
Some guys have got it right- Iron Maiden for example. I could hear chorus on their rhythm guitars and it sounded perfect, not washy at all. Steve Stevens does it good too. I'm still working on how to get it to work for me. A long process indeed.
