What happened to the freaking Bartlett Pickup Rings Thread?

I must have missed the deleting of the original thread. I knew it would go tits up though, as the mention of money, high priced custom guitars, high priced authentic accessories, etc. reared its ugly head. Why pay up for an authentic replica and not have authentic plastic on it and why would that bother some of you? Instead of people skipping over a thread that they have absolutely no business replying to, they decide to go down that road and spew shit from the keyboard. A few people here have the means and the desire to own a few of these luxury items. What business is it of those that can't afford or choose not to afford a guitar of this magnitude, to label someone a cork sniffer or whatever else? Open that can of worms though, someone is going to come along and have something to say about it. I know school's out now and the kids are posting. It's a god damn shame the forum has been allowed to go unmoderated to the point of being the next HCAF and other shit rags where there is no respect for other members, or gear providers.

Like Curt said, some people have friends here and its a means to keep contact and have a bit of fun or post your gear, clips, opinions or stuff to sell. But, I won't sit here and allow anyone to talk shit about me or a friend.

It seems that you take personal offense whenever you post about something and someone else disagrees with you or doesn't wanna hang from your nut sack and tell you how awesome your newest gear purchase is. Besides, I was instructed to believe that the whole banter back and forth from that thread was in jest. I clearly thought most of it was until I saw your post. It had the same air of condescension that the one above has. It's funny too that you want to make comments like, "school must be out now and the kids are posting." That seems immature to me. I'm glad you've got friends here, good for you. If you guys wanna gang up and get everyone banned who doesn't agree with you, go for it. Whatever makes you feel like the alpha male you so clearly believe you are.

Meanwhile, back at the plastic...if the plastic Tom is putting out floats your boat, that's great. Go for it. But just as an FYI (if you're into this stuff), Ace has re-tooled his shop in the plastics department. His new DMC stuff is even better than before. For vintage accurate pickguards (aged or new), a lot of AVH Les Paul freaks (including MAX) swear by Dave Johnson's guards.

In my replica I've bought Gibson Historic plastic for it. If I was going to try and pass my replica off as a "real 59 burst" I'd be silly not to get the Bartlett Rings, DMC, Angel Parts, etc. products that are marketed towards those looking for the old burst look.

In my case, I'm just looking for the tone, although the guitar is built to 59 specs. A few months of me sweating on the pickup rings, and finish and I'm sure it's going to look pretty grungy and authentic.

For those who decide they need relic pickup rings, fine, go for it. I just don't need them on mine. Your mileage may vary. But I don't spend all day looking at my plastic on my guitars, so it just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm certainly not calling anyone a cork sniffer, or elitist. It's your money, spend it on whatever you like. If you don't have it to spend, fine. But it's not cool to insult people who can spend the money. That is why we work hard, right?

Some will disagree with this observation. I bought real PAF's for the replica. There's $2k plus just for that pair of pickups. But I know what they sound like so I feel I got a fair deal since they used to be as much as 8-10k back in the 2004-2008 timeframe.

If the purchaser of the product does not feel he/she is getting ripped off, then nobody is getting ripped off. That's the bottom line.

Too much animosity around here lately and not enough community. If you don't like someone, or you think someone is wasting their money, etc., etc., etc. you CAN just skip that person's posts or the whole topics...

I'll never understand why people seem to care what other people do with their money (even though they profess not to) and feel compelled to comment on it...

Oh no. I'm mad as hell. This thread is gonna send me off the deep end and totally ruin my day! No one in that thread got personal. Actually, you get personal when you call out moderators and infer that other members are "children" because they don't have the same opinion as you.

In the original thread, there were only matters of opinion regarding the price point of the products mentioned. Some posters got offended and seemed to take it personally that there were other people who thought that paying such prices for things like pickup rings was silly. If in some way having the opinion that paying $300 for pickup rings is disrespectful to those who don't think it's silly, then I guess I'm wrong. I thought both viewpoints were a matter of opinion.

For you to make the statement that someone "doesn't have any business" posting in a particular thread is beyond ridiculous. In your mind, what constitutes the right for one to "have business" posting in a particular thread or not? It's a public online forum. It's not like a Facebook page.

Just for the record, I'm completely calm. I haven't accused moderators of not moderating the forum in a "proper" way, I haven't called anyone names or inferred calling anyone names ( "school must be out..." infers that someone is a "child"), and I haven't felt the need to curse. Yet.
