What's a 1988 LP Silverburst Showcase Edition worth?

Or, what is the most I should pay?

It's in great shape for a 21 year old guitar. Probably 8.5/10. Comes with a case.

I just sold mine last week on Ebay and had a buy it now of $1700.00. It sold in 5 minutes, no exageration. It is extremely limited and is worth a lot more than $1700 IMO. I sucked it up cause mine was more a 7.5 out of 10.

Thanks man. He want's $2200

That's a fair price if it's in that condition. I will regret selling this but I needed to reload for some other things. I will find another someday. You will never play a more solid guitar. Heavy rythem tones with those EMGS. I miss mine already.

I don't know - looking at your auction, maybe I'm over-rating how good of condition it is in. I think $2,200 may be too much (and he's coming down from $2,800)

thanks man.

I'm thinking the most I wanna do is $1,800 or so.

Use mine as leverage. I might have been too hard on my condition, I always try to be 100 accurate on descriptions and usually screw myself. Great guitar either way,

Spend the extra money and get a early 80s or late 70s Silverburst. I bought a 80 Silverburst from GC for 2300 a year ago.

The 88 has the weight relief holes drilled under the top. The pre 83 Les Pauls dont have this.

Are you sure about the weight relief? From what I've read, they were supposed to be solid with a 3 piece top. This is a limited edition guitar made in the custom shop. Only 200 were made.

He is absolutely right. Any Les Paul guitars after 83 are weight relieved except Historic Reissue guitars.

I've had and played a lot of Les Pauls. This was the heaviest one I have ever touched so I'd be surprised if it wasn't solid. Not sure if they did anything different with the Showcase line. Might be worth checking into if that matters to you.

I have played standards that weigh over 11pounds and have weight relief holes. My 81 Silverburst barely weighs 9 pounds and its as solid as a rock.

The holes only reduce the weight by ounces not pounds and IMO a stupid practice.

R8 and R9s are the only ones without these holes most CS Lesters had these holes including the Class 5.

Here is the link on the Gibson website for further proof:

Mistaking heavy Les Paul's for actual solid non-weight relieved one's is one of the most common misconceptions about Les Paul guitars.

Also R7 (57) and R0 (60) are non-weight relieved as well.
