What is a "X" mod ???????

Hi Everyone, happy holidays to all.

I have what may be a bunch of dumb questions. What is an X mod? and I have a couple of related questions. First what is an X mod? Is it a standard mod for all of the Egnater modules. Can it be described to how it changes the module in terms of sound? For example.
I have a SL2X. I have seen some posts about "Xman which I think is a X modded Bassman. I have also seen some posts about a EG 3/4X. Is their a MHG X ??? or a EG5X ?
And is their a standard cost for this mod? Is it something that only Egnater does?

Sorry for all the questions. I would just like a little more iformation on this.

In a nutshell:

The "X" mod adds some upper-midrange and treble crunch to the British-based modules.

The "X" name is probably based off the EG5, which was originally called the "X Module", and has the "X" circuitry incorporated into the design.

Hence you can't "X" and EG5, cuz it already IS "X"d.

Jeff Hilligan of Egnater was the first to use that mod on an SL2, turning into a SL2X (which was known as a GNR for a brief period). Others, including me, have also tried it on an EG3/4, and BMAN, with great success.

SL2 is the only module that Egnater has officially used the "X" mod on, to create a new module.

"EG3/4X" and "XMAN" are NOT Eggy-approved, as of yet... ;) but they are great sounding tweaks to those already fantastic sounding modules.

Modules that can NOT be "X"d:
- VOX
- EG5 (already is)
- American voiced modules (COD, TWIN, DLX, T/D)

You can probably "X" an MHG, which would most likely turn it INTO an EG5, or at least get very close.

No one has "X"d a SL, but I think Jeff tried and did not like the results.
 
I tried doing the X mod myself but it didn't work...

I couldn't get it to fit back in the head :doh:
