Which revalver are you guys using? I had some version of it a while back, and just couldnt get anything I really liked out of it. If any of you havent tried amplitube 3 yet, you are missing out, IMO.

Amplitude 3

Poulin Legion - a free vst !

for me amplitude 3 leaves a lot to be desired considering ...$$$ vs Free

The best is Fractal audio Axe FX. As far as cheaper softer alternatives. Amplitube has always been decent. I haven't used it since V2 so I don't know how well it has improved. Revalver also is decent. Vintage amp room?
I have one. Just not getting what I want out of it. Figured why not buy an i7 processor laptop and load it with A3, Pro Tools, and a rhythm program.

The only free plugin that Ive really liked has been the tsex30. Couldnt get anything I really liked out of the legion one. The 5150 model in amplitube isnt the best, either...its pretty fizzy. My presets are setup with the recto models and boosts in front.

Know what you mean - theres a "secret" to getting better than average results with these sims

kinda like how all of Dimi's Demos have that same underlying "fluid mids" tone regardless of which sim hes using (ie Rig4,amplitude, studio devil, vandal etc)

when I figure out the "secret" myself  - I'll post it ! (I'll bet its that Dimi is using EMG's)

as far as legion, the "on the way up" clip is the best demo of that sim I've heard to date

what style of music do you prefer mostly?
I like an old School Cannibal Corpse "Butchered at Birth," Pantera "Far Beyond Driven," Solid State Amp, Randall Century/ Crate GX130C, and metal zone into a clean clean channel type vibe to my rhythm sounds.

Leads, I like a screaming Mesa Mark Series or Marshall lead tones in addition to coaxing them out of the mentioned above.

Cleans; either SS or a fender super clean sound will do.

bump for something

I'm pretty much have no experience with this stuff. I have Reaper and Audacity on my PC and an ART USB interface. Is there a demo of one of these modelers that will work with what I have to get my feet wet? Do I need a special soundcard or anything?

I just downloaded Peavey Revalver and its pretty cool! The Classic 30 sounds great. I am getting a lot of noise and I am having latency issues with the USB interface. Is there a decent but affordable sound card someone could recommend? There goes my Sunday

Possibly the best we've ever used in our studio yet... the new Line 6 POD Farm Platinum. Really took things places that Amplitube never delivered. Definitely worth checking out. Even with less flexibility in the miking dept, it still delivered the preferable tone and amp response:

And if you like classic Fenders and vintage Marshalls, you should really check out Avid's Eleven for Pro Tools. You can just get the plug-in -- you don't have to get the Eleven Rack hardware, though that's a nice option too.

The Pod Farm Software seems like a software version of the Pod's. I have an XT, so why not use an interface with it?

For whatever intangible reason, the software just sounded and responded better to us than any POD hardware products we have used.

Many engineers have been using Amp Farm and Echo Farm for years... the software product pre-dated the POD hardware by many years. And it took until just this past year for Line 6 to replace the classic studio tool. If you have POD hardware then that's of course a good studio solution, but if you want to do everything "in the box" it sounds great.

Of course many products sound great. They just each have their own vibe. This one just really got a lot right... so much so that despite the limited mic controls it still brought the fun factor to using a modeling tool in the studio.
