What is the ultimate Greenback cab design?

I have an Orange loaded with greenbacks. Sounds great, but I have no other greenback cab to compare it to...

My original question was about Bogner's 4x12, though. I've never seen an "oversized" Bogner 4x12. I don't know if everyone's talking about that or Bogner's Oversized 2x12, which does exist.

Bogner 4x12 is 30 3/4" high. Common Marshall cabs are about 29 1/2" or 29 3/4" at most. The Bogner is also slightly wider. They've never advertised it as oversized. You can fit 4 12" speakers in an old 26"x26" Boogie 4x12 so a standard Marshall could be considered oversized relative to that.

Anyway, even though the Bogners are only slightly bigger than a Marshall, a small difference in a speaker enclosure can make a big difference.

Anybody know if they make the TV cabs in straight front? As far as I can tell they are only available with angled front? That would really piss my cereal if they don't.

I didn't know that, but I think you're right they're all slants. Try one though, it sounds great as is.

Only one company I know that makes a tall bottom straight cab. ;)

For the internal dimensions to be larger, yet still have the same external dimensions, the wood would have to be thinner. And even then, you're only going to get an inch (max) from each side. So you wind up going from an internal volume of 12,600 square inches to maybe 15,376 square inches. But then your cab has less mass and less rigidity. What's the overall sonic difference? I don't know.

But oversized cabs are generally larger (on the outside) than their "traditionally" sized counterparts. I've never seen an oversized cab with the same external dimensions as a normal one, yet have a larger internal volume... Magic?

Exactly my point! That is exactly the difference between the typical Marshall 1960 cab and a Boogie Recto 'oversized' cab. If you compare the dimensions, the Recto is only larger by give or take a 1/4" on all dimensions, but the construction wood is indeed thinner and far more dense. This gives it lots more internal space (different sound) without actually being that much bigger on the outside (inconvenience).

I dunno... looking at the Mesa Oversized (Recto) cab, it seems to be much larger on the outside. almost 33x30 1/8x14 1/4. Whereas the Marshall 1960 is 29 1/4x29 1/2x14. and the Bogner is 30 3/4x29 3/4x14. I've A/B'd all three at the same time, actually. So I know how they sound (with my rig) compared to each other. But, I just found it strange that people were talking about the Bogner being "oversized."

would like to try greenies in my fatbottom, now that would be interesting!

Oh ok, maybe I had it wrong. Looking at Marshall 1960B specs (as I don't own one) the dimensions seem VERY close to the Boogie, except instead of being ordered AxBxC, it seems to be BxAxC. Not sure if that's significant, or if the Boogie cab is like a Marshall cab laying on its side or what. That doesn't make much sense either.

Excerpts from the above pages:

Boogie:
32-7/8 (H)
30-1/8 (W)
14-1/4 (D)

Marshall:
760mm = 29.9"
830mm = 32.7"
360mm = 14.2"

I know it's not very clear on the Marshall dimensions, but that's what I was going by :rock:

I consider the Mesa Recto cab to be the ultimate V30 cab design, in that it compliments the speakers perfectly. Adds a little low end to compensate the speaker's natural low end tightening and smooths a bit of the high end which would otherwise be bright. What is the cab design that perfectly compliments the Greenback sound? I am thinking either Bogner oversized cab, or Marshall 1960 the classic. I think I am leaning toward the Bogner because its oversized and I like a good thump in my sound with a smooth top end. Lots of big furry balls. I've never used (to my knowledge) Greenbacks in person and all I have to go by is clips.

Hands down, best V30 cab I have played is the Bogner OS212!!!! Smoother and more organic, plus bigger sounding than the Rectifier cab.

For V30s, Bogner OWNS!!!!!!
For Greenbacks in a 412, I say the old Marshall basketweave. For a 212 cabinet, hands down the older Marshall diagonal 212 cabs, but I actually like the clones made by companies like MojoTone.
