For the bridge of a LP:

Alnico V
Medium-Hot to Hot
Moderate, but very tight low end
LOTS of fat sounding low mids/mid mids..........not peaked in the upper mids (like JB)
Present and articulate high-end.........but smooth, not fizzy

I have a Duncan Custom 5 in there right now............too much loose, overbearing low end, nowhere near FAT enough in the mids, highs are good

Rio BBQ ?
BKP Holy Diver ?

MCP Afwayu.

Edit: Afwayu imo does not have tight lows.. The Angel Dust however does.

Based on your description I was about to say Duncan Custom 5 :hys:

The Duncan Custom has a Ceramic magnet and might tighten up the low end and fatten the mids a little. Duncan Distortion is really middy as well, but it's also Ceramic. Once you get past medium output on an Alnico 5 magnet you are out of the realm of fat mids, you generally get warm lows and extended highs. Ceramic is the better option for mids at high output.

Yep, Rio Grande BBQ! It's my all time favorite full sized humbucker.

1. Dimarzio Norton
2. Dimarzio Tone Zone
3. Dimarzio AT-1

Man, I'm looking up some of these pickups and WOW. You've got to be nuts to spend $130 bucks on a single pickup. If Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, EMG, Gibson, and Fender aren't enough for you then man, you've got some magic ears. And a deep wallet. My opinion.

I used to think the same thing until I bought a set of MCP Black Belts, I had to see it for myself....I'm never going back now

i recommend this pickup all the time here and it's retarded i know - but (lol)
the dimarzio mo'joe does have a tight low end, has smoother highs than a JB, and has a fair amount of mids. very articulate and matches great with a PAF joe neck (imagine that lol)
it is medium output though - not "med/high".
i just like that set so much more than the JB/jazz set.

Before you spend money on a new pickup, try:

A. Roughcast Alnico5 magnet in your Custom5 (supposed to smooth out trebles)
B. Ceramic magnet, making it a Custom. I'm telling ya - the custom is a great sounding pickup. Not harsh at all. Plenty of fat mids, tight low end, great pickup.
